Review # 36 for Chaos Nyte
Them's Fightin' Words
With an interesting location and time period, Resistance manages to show off some fun ideas and plotscripting twists. Too bad these don't make up for the overall blandness of the game.

Storyline- The story begins with the protagonist, Hans writing in his journal about the occupation by the Nazi's of his hometown of Brussel. It's Christmas eve, and when Hans smells something burning he runs downstairs to find dinner burnt to a crisp and his parent's gone. With only a note declaring their love for him, Hans sets out, to inform his best friend Jasper, who has a quest of his own. Jasper wants to escape the town to find his sister Ruby, who has run off with a German officer. Hans joins up, and they escape Brussel through the sewers, where they have to fight...rats. Probably the games biggest loophole is that within the whole demo, I didn't run into one Nazi. It was very depressing. After escaping, Jasper's parents call to him on the other side of the fence to come back, and a rather heart felt scene takes place, ending with Hans and Jasper continuing their journey. After a train ride, they end up in an inn, where the kind host, a woman named Leah, feeds them and lets them rest for free. When Hans and Jasper leave, the player is given control of Leah, who is trapped in the room. End of demo, I suppose. Dialogue could use some work. I don't think Mr. B's first language is English.

Graphics- Skin colors are off for everyone, and map tiles could use some work. The battle graphics, are sadly, some of the ugliest I have ever seen. Leah's inn is decently decked out. Very sparse map tiles, maybe a total of a full set in the entire game.

Gameplay- Interesting. Using a system called "Tabs" for bonuses, and a unique lighting system in the sewer, Resistance brings some new ideas to the OHR engine. However, the bland battle mechanics and bizarre save point locations mars the fun. Demo is too short to really enjoy it.

Music- There wasn't any. Mr. B, ripping is fine if the alternative is too not have any music.

Overall- A clever first effort, but with too little time spent on it.
Final Scores
Graphics: 3/10.0
Mr. B needs to spend more time on his game's graphics.
Storyline: 5/10.0
Aside from a few holes, a solid plot.
Gameplay: 4/10.0
The battle system needs a lot of work.
Music: 1/10.0
No music = 0
Overall Grade: D+
Final Thoughts
Not bad for a game that's less then 100 kb big. Give it a try, it'll only take 15 minutes.
