Review # 39 for P
Them's Fightin' Words
Santa Goes Extreme is a clever little minigame that uses the power of plotscripting to its advantage. The story cuts to the chase: Santa's running late. He doesn't have time to go down every chimney, so it's up to you to guide him around the town and toss presents down all the chimneys. Er, well, not all the chimneys. The red houses are those of good little children, and those in black houses are those of bad misfits. At first, I couldn't understand why my score was going up and down as I dropped presents. Without any immediate documentation on how to play, I had to figure out everything on my own, including pressing P to drop a present.

Those problems aside, Santa Goes Extreme is a fun one-minute game, though replay value is unfortunately low. The one "town", though tasty eye candy, gets repetitive and is easily memorized after two or three playthroughs. Thus I call this game a minigame. The concept is well-made, yet I'm itching for something. More levels, randomized housing, an ending based on the final score -- something to evolve this into a real game instead of another time-passing program like SkiFree.

The authors mention that the person who sends them the highest score is awarded the plotscript for the game, which means that maybe we'll see a reincarnation of this minigame somewhere else.
Final Scores
Graphics: 8/10.0
Well done! It sets the christmasy feel. To add to the SkiFree reference, I kept waiting to see a dog that pees itself if I rammed it with Santa's sleigh!
Storyline: 9/10.0
Cute. Very cute.
Gameplay: 8.5/10.0
If the game came with in-game instructions, I would've been much more pleased. Withholding that, Santa is a great driver.
Music: 8/10.0
My computer won't play Bams... but with a game like this, the music can't be god-awful, and if it is, it's over quick enough.
Overall Grade: B-
Final Thoughts
The authors are holding back. I would've enjoyed this game better if it was longer and more developed.
