Them's Fightin'
Words |
Me being a fan of punk-ska music, I downloaded it to see what it was all about. The game is pretty fun, and has it's corny humorous parts at times, like fighting an evil bad guy in a Pikachu Costume, hahahaha, good stuff.

Graphics |
The graphics were mediocre. I liked them because they seemed like a comic book like what the creator said. Although, the fight graphics were much more elaborate than the walkabouts, the walkabouts seemed plain, but still, they looked fine to me. BenjI tended to reuse some of his sprites a bit too much.

Storyline |
The story line hadn't been revealed too much in this demo. Although, Ska-Drummer Man and his rocking buddies were off to fight a mysterious evil, which was never revealed, they would just fight more and more of Ska-Drummer Man's arch enimies, like a Nazi Hate Guy, a PokeMan, and even a "silly bum". Good stuff.

Gameplay |
The gameplay was not the best part of the game. It seemed every step in the game was a random battle, and the amount of experience was a joke for the difficulty of the fight, it took forever to level up. But other than that, the fights were challenging.

Battle |
The battles were needless to say, tough. But the animations looked pretty cool, very cartoony, which seemed to be the basis for this game. The cool thing about the battles were that you never knew quite who you were going to fight, like in one particular random battle, you fought these freaky looking pokenerds and threw pokeballs, now that was a neat thing to see.

Map Design |
The maptiles seemed to be much like my Mr.Triangle saga. One tile could be used for many things, rather than go into elaboarte details. They looked pretty neat all the same, and since this was based on a comic strip, it seemed to work perfectally.

Balance |
The balance was very nice. Every new town you would go to would sell all the items you could possibly need, from tasty muffins, to beany buritoes. The only big thing, which I talked about in the Gameplay section, was the random battles. I wish those were fixed...

Music |
Music was cool. Actually was the best part of the game. I liked the fact that the music wasn't Final Fantasy music. But instead, was band music, such as GreenDay, Reel Big Fish, Rancid and that's just a few. The music was so cool, it set the mood perfectally.

Enjoyment |
I enjoyed the game a fair amount. I mostly finished the game because I wanted to see where it would go. Like most games, it's a real drag to see the end of a demo, I like to play a game until it's over and done, unfortunately, this wasn't the case. But it's a demo, and I hope the creator will finish the game.

Final Blows |
Wasn't the best game I have played, but one of the funner ones. With chantings like "It's Fisti-Cuffs time!" Heck, that made it all so much funner. The dialog was corny like that. I would like to see an update of this, just to see where else these guys go.

Final Scores
Graphics: 6/10.0 |
If it weren't based off of a comic book I would have complained a lot more. But since it was and seemed to work, it looks fine.
Storyline: 4/10.0
Storyline seemed to be in the making, which seems to happen in the beginning of every game. Like in the beginning of FF7, did Cloud know he was gonna save the world from a great big meteor??? |
Gameplay: 5.5/10.0 |
Gameplay was fun, needed improvement in certain areas however... But like I said, it's a demo.
Music: 9.5/10.0
The music was cool and spiffy. I enjoyed hearing some of my favorite bands in this. It made my day to hear something besides Final Fantasy music. |
Enjoyment: 5.5/10.0
I overall enjoyed the game. I liked the way it flowed in that awkward way. Would like to see more of it sometime. |
Overall Grade:
C |

Final Thoughts |
A good game, needs improvement in certain areas, but then again, this is a demo, and lot's of demos change over time. I hope this one does as well. |
