_A Note on Previews_

RinkuHero

No more previews?

|

I've decided Septaweekly will no longer contain previews, after some thought.

The first reason is that there is seldom anything worth previewing sent in, and it was getting to be like an advertisement section for anyone who wanted to send in some screenshots and a description.

The second reason was more important. The idea of previews was to generate interest in new games that are being worked on, and lead to them being more widely played. The flaw with that was that most of the games being previewed weren't being released. If you go back and look at the Ohrrpgce Monthly previews and the previews in the first issue of Septaweekly, only about half of them aren't now abandoned (some are still in production and unreleased, years later). And a game that is released and is worth playing will get a review anyway, so it is not likely for its preview to generate any more interest than the review itself would.

The third reason is that a lot of games are previewed on the Zantetsuken boards anyway, and so this didn't offer anything different from that, especially when the author just sent in a description of the game and screenshots. I've even seen games advertised using basically the same screenshots and description on both there and here.

Apologies go to those who sent in previews for this issue, and to those who were considering having a preview of their game in the future. If this applies to you, I advise that you advertise on PK-Fortis' Zantetsuken boards, in the Ohrrpgce forum. Just as large a number of people will see the preview there as they would here. But even more important than advertisement itself is making the game as good as it can be. If it's good enough, it'll eventually get a wider audience, by its reviews and by word of mouth.
