| Heretic
What does it mean to believe something? If one believes in something
with absolute conviction, does this make it real? Certainly, the child
who believes that monsters are waiting under the bed to devour him as soon
as he falls asleep "knows" this to be true, while we who are older know
that no monsters are there. But just because the monsters are not real
to us might not mean that they are not there....
Ceya Frison is the son of the high priest, seen as something of a black
sheep because he does not embrace his father's ways. When he befriends
the elderly scholar, Arcos Corlest, the two of them share beliefs that
might cost them their lives. One fateful day, a great and terrible secret
is stumbled upon, and the two of them must flee, carrying knowledge that
will change the lives of every living thing...
Aegelstorn Amolas is a child born into war, who has known nothing else.
Training under the guise of Cethos Taraton, he has quickly become a high-ranking
officer in the Vindicators, the soldiers charged with protecting the church
from harm. When he is summoned to the court of High Priest Mandur Frison
one dark night, he is given a charge that will alter the way he views things
forever...
The tale of these two men form the centerpiece of Heretic. What is one's
involvement with the other? What will happen when their paths cross? What
is the linchpin binding their lives together, and how fine is the line
between love and hatred?
Harlock of the Shogunate weaves a dark tale that examines the power
of belief, and also what happens when ideas become too large for their
creators to control them. Spanning three years, five continents, and countless
lives, the story is one of the largest to ever grace the OHRRPGCE.
On the techincal side of the coin, Heretic, by the time of its release,
will be the product of over 3 years tireless labor by Harlock and his consultants.
Most aspects of the game, with the possible exception of music, are done
by Harlock himself, with assistance from others taken in the form of ideas
and creative consultation.
Heretic will feature an innovative battle system that will require the
player to think ahead, and not just mindlessly hammer the spacebar (and
although this has been promised by other games in the past, this time,
the promise won't be broken). Every character has strengths and weaknesses
that must be effectively utilized if one is to be successful in his or
her quest. These strengths and weaknesses might very well change due to
your actions during the course of the game, and in those events, you'll
need to rethink strategies even more. Combat is not an easy task to master.
As in real life, experience will come from sources other than battle.
Performing deeds, stating convictions, facing danger, and remaining true
to one's character are all experience-gaining feats and one should not
overlook their importance. He who does might find himself ill prepared
for the hardships ahead.
The world of Heretic is a vast one, with over 60 locations to explore
accessible from the World Map, and countless other sub-maps. Several of
these locations are not mandatory, but offer a more enriching story and
rare bonuses if they are explored. No one location is un-important.
Current progress places the game at 10% completed, although the majority
of the remaining work is merely map construction, door assembly and other
mundane tasks. Because of this, expect a demo in late fall or early winter. |
2000? Might want to change that, Harlock.
O Tree! Answer our wish! No, I've been playing too
much Final Fantasy 4...
A dark fight against some thing.
Nihilist!
A bright fight, against bees with swords and shields
Outside of a cathedral, I'm guessing
Alive or dead, advisor?
