Issue #6 - January
Issue 6 marks Ohrrpgce Monthly's 1st year anniversary, and also marks
the last issue that will be soley concerned with Ohrrpgce games. Next issue
will see the initiation of this magazine's sequel/evolution, which will
expand to the coverage of non-commercial game design in general (although
most of it will still be concerned mainly with Ohrrpgce). Expect it in
spring of 2002. In this issue you will see some of the changes that will
be forthcoming in the evolution of this quasi-periodical.
There is a large change to the reviews
coverage area. It is now less regular and resembles a set of opinion articles
on games as much as it resembles what it was during the previous 5 months.
It now does not give games grades, which is a recognition that game valuation
is subjective, but even so, game opinions is informative. Think of book
reviews. Most book reviews don't 'grade' books, saying that this book is
5 stars, and this book 3 stars, etc. But meat is graded, so you get grade
A beef, grade B beef, and so forth. Games are more like books than they
are like beef, and so we've removed the grading idea. Also, grades are
quite schoolish. Ohrrpgce Monthly is opposed to the idea of school: it
supports the seperation of school and state. The reviews for this month
are by Rinku Hero, Specplosive, Harlock
Hero, and King Haggard.
The previews format is pretty
much the same as it was in previous issues. Previewed are: Wingedmene:
Part One 25% version (see that area for hints on how to get the doujinshii),
and The Adventures of Meow: Cat Scratch City.
Harlock Hero is now in
charge of interviews and this month
has interviewed several victims.
The design section is increasingly
becoming the strongest part of this magazine. This issue has four articles:
an article by Moogle1 on gameplay, an article by Moogle1 on artificial
intelligence, an article by Neo on palette alteration in the Ohrrpgce,
and the final article in my three-article series on game design, with contributions
from Harlock Hero and Charbile.
The top 30 remains the same as
always. Go look and see which Ohrrpgce games lead and which follow.
The cover was designed by The
MeAjur Komera Waddi, and is of her game Wingedmene, the newest
version of which should be up at http://geo.to/KomeraWaddi
(scroll down, lower left hand side). Although you may want to wait a few
days for the final 25% version (currently the last boss of the demo has
only 1 hp).
PepsiRanger set up an Ohrrpgce Collage of characters from all different
Ohrrpgce games. See it here.
Every good videogame magazine has at least one comic, and so Melnazar
has graciously agreed to do a comic strip for Ohrrpgce Monthly. See it
by clicking here.
Demo for this month: Tilde and the Mask of :P can be found here
will be added in one week, on Jan. 20th, check back then).
