You really can't like Mageclash as much as possible until you play it with a friend.
Preferably, this friend should be the co-author of the game and you should be me. You can't. I'm taken. The next best thing is to find someone else who doesn't mind games with low framerates and no music, so long as they're terribly addictive and more fun than they should be.
Mageclash fits the bill. I don't know if I've played any other game that can compete with the frantic action in Mageclash, whether you're getting kicked across the screen in the Chocobo Ranch, escaping the rising acid in Exdeath's Castle, jumping to a safe platform in the Phantom Castle, or just duking it out on the Mage's Tower. I don't know how many hours I've spent seeing how long a two-player game could last on the Floating Continent or the X-Zone. I don't know how long I've spent collecting Summon spellspheres so I could even things up with my opponent or just trying to find safe harbor from the Summon he just cast. I don't know how many games of Death Sentence tag I've played with the other wizard.
I really don't know if this game captivates anyone else in the way it does for Kevin and me. Having created this game from scratch, we know it in a way no one else does: all of its eccentricities, special features, secrets, everything.
I do know that this game has its fans and that the fans, like me, have been patiently awaiting the day that this game sees its remake. The plans have been in the works for years. A lot of it will be the same and a lot of it will surprise (pleasantly, I hope) players of the original. The only certainty is that the remake will come. This game has a soft spot in my heart like no other. _________________
