So, what do you guys recommend? Keep in mind, this is the first time I'm ever gonna try anything like it, so I'd rather stay away from the uber hard programs.

What would you guys suggest?

I normally only use it to help me refine\create melodies, but Anvil Studio is an easy program to start with, because there's piano and guitar interfaces you can click on; whatever note that is clicked is added to the composition.

The rest of my composition is done with Noteworthy. The interface seems simpler, but I've never really gotten in depth enough with Anvil Studio to tell the difference between the two.

First, education. I don't know how much you know about music, but learning to play an instrument is probably a good start. Keyboard would be a good choice if you're looking to compose for games, but get some professional training if possible.

From there, (BASIC) music theory should be simple to understand. If you can read sheet music and know your scales, you can compose, but that still doesn't mean you'll be any good. Practice, write lots of music.

Noteworthy is a pretty good program for composition in general. I'd recommend it.
