I think I'm one click away from being able to afford a pack of Tic-Tacs
In all honesty, I made a whopping $4.43 in September. I tried to make the ads as unobtrusive as possible and it's less of a "make money quick" scheme as it is justification for blowing my money the way I do. We don't have the a big enough user base or hit count to counter monthy costs with the ads, but at least there's the prospect of getting some money back....in a year or so....if I'm lucky (I don't see a penny until I break $100...you do the math). For those who are wondering, CP costs about $50 a month. _________________

So, if we click the link, you make money? Jesus, could we get the guy who used to download games 600 times in a minute to click the links? We could split the money three ways. |

So, we have to actually click on the ads for you to get money?
Should we, like, schedule times for members to just click it rapidly for 10 minutes?
Because if you aren't getting anything out of it, they may as well not be there. All I'm doing is looking at it, and that's always on accident. _________________

Google Ads work on both a per click and per 1000 impressions basis. Even if it takes an entire year to receive $100 for the ads, it's $100 more than I'd normally have running CP. I'm not trying to make a profit off of CP. It's my primary e-mail server, photo server, and learning tool. With or without CP I'd be paying for DSL. CP was justification to buy high speed internet in the first place and it's been worth every penny. I've said many many times, this site is just a small aspect of the CP server. It's my first experience with PHP, MySQL, and maintaining a server.
I'm not asking you to click on the ads. Text ads occassionally show up at the top of the screen otherwise there's an image ad shows up at the bottom of the screen. I've seen some animation, a lot of public service announcements, and nothing that really stands out as bothersome. I've seen them on quite a few sites, managed to integrate them into the site in a way that doesn't take away from CP's actual content, and I wanted to see how it'd go.
I set up the cafepress shop for a similar reason: $0.50 mark up and all profits go back to the community. Since it's creation, I've coordinated prizes with contest hosts and winners have received wall clocks and coffee mugs. Speaking of which, Squall, we haven't touched the store in quite a while .
The site isn't paying for itself and I won't say no to the off chance of gaining $100 every now and then for unobtrusive ads. _________________
