Okay, so, I'm mostly working on the graphics for this game at the moment. No plot, no story, nuthin' but pretty pictures. It's still pretty rough, but critiques are welcome.

Shouldn't higher ground be a different green?

I'd be more worried about her awkward battle pose, especially that her skirt looks like it has no legs in it, the whole shape seems random and doesn't accommodate for the possibility of anything being under it.

Also, is the wind blowing it forward? But the wind isn't blowing her hair?

I agree with Uncommon. The different shades of green for elevational differences would be nice, but could lead to all sorts of issues that really wouldn't be worth the time to sort out, in my opinion. The battle pose, on the other hand, makes the woman seem like she's a ghost underneath.

So were we suggesting graphics or story ideas?

I did draw legs originally, then the skirt over that. Do you suppose making the shape a little more solid and longer might fix the ghost effect?

Where are her feet?

Unless you want a 'wind' effect (in which case the hair should be blowing as well), I'd suggest trying to be a bit more even with the 'flowing' of the skirt. But I am certainly no artist (I didn't even bother with a 'pose' for my battle graphics in my first game). Maybe it would help people help you if we could see the picture of just the legs without the skirt...? If you even still have it.

I'm sorry that I really can't offer any more assistance.

EDIT: Oh by the way, I realized I didn't say so originally, but I meant to tell you that I like the look of your map graphics a lot!

Yeah, I forgot, too. The battle sprite looks pretty good, too, aside from the skirt issues. If you hadn't just drawn over the legs and still have that draft of the sprite, I'll do what I can to help you from there, otherwise I can just play around with that one a bit, too. Just for suggestions, least wise.

Fourthing that. I'm interested in seeing what this game's all about.

I wear a lot of skirts, so perhaps I am romanticizing it a bit--it's supposed to be swishing, not blowing in the wind. I will edit it though, maybe show her feet...

Interesting. I usually have the story all hatched out long before I even get to graphics, but this way works too. Graphics are probably the most time consuming part of game development, right next to the tedious programming. It's good to get out of the way.
Something I will point out is that you made an interesting map. I like maps that have levels to them rather than being flat with twists and turns in the path of the hero. Twists and turns are good, but having multiple levels is even better in my humble opinion. Happy

Another thing I just noticed, the Point Of View of the treasure chest seems to be almost directly straight down, where the point of view of the hero is more from the side. There needs to be a little more consistency.

The skirt looks like a green splash attack of a Pavender from Wandering Hamster..

In other words, it looks too funny to look right! Raspberry! Showing some feet might actually be the best fix, despite your romanticized view of your character, if you don't want other players to be confused by the appearance.

As for Leroy's comment, Bloodlust actually started off with just graphics, no story, and now it has developed into what is one of my better projects. Just letting you know graphics then story can work out too!

Perhaps if you drew the skirt lines to appear as though the fabric is wrapped around parts of the legs.
