Babel

The tower of Babel, the man-made pathway to heaven. After hundreds of the years, the tower was finally ready to ascended, only to be invaded by monsters. Now you must lead your party of lost souls up the tower, with the treasure at the end being an eternity in Eden...

Storyline: With eight characters to choose for your party, each with their own unique pasts, I choose to go through the game with a hundred year old young man that was the part of the first expedition to Babel, Brandon. A hated filled monster named Kar-Kes, a young thief named Claire, and a winged man of the church, Cannope. I’m sure that choosing a different team results in a entirely changed plot. The dialogue is well the thought out, your team connects with each other and the NPCs, and your enemies are well developed. Though their are some spelling errors, this is a wonderful attempt at making a game with a real world around it.

Graphics: Grandtrain has his own unique style, and I can’t say enough good things about it. Its makes me feel like I’m playing an old SNES game, with beautiful backgrounds in battle, and fantastic character art. I only noticed a few lax errors, like Cannope’s background for the angel battle. The enemy graphics are particularly well done.

Gameplay: This is where Babel really shines. A altered battle system is an interesting twist, though not quite perfect. The attacks for different characters are designed to make them stand out. The shop system is sensible and fits well into the game. Boss fights are exceedingly twisted, requiring you to think as you fight, and has everything ranging from the multiple enemy fights of FF6 to a side scrolling flying game. The only fault is a rather slow battle meter that takes forever at Level 0 to charge to full.

Music: Mostly ripped from what I could tell, but placed well. Never annoying, always fitting the mood.

Scores:
