All his life, Bobo wanted to be an adventurer. He has fought many pirates and bandits to be considered an adventurer. Although this is not enough for Bobo. He wanted more adventure. He is soon to have the adventure of his life.

The basic story of Flames of Sardon is of an ancient evil that once plagued the lands. Four evil sorcerers, Bain, Kuros, Kain, and Tridor, were put into a crystal by a warrior many years ago. The crystal was burried and it was thought the evil would never be brought back. Although some traverlers stumbled upon the crystal and brought back the four evil sorcerers. You soon learn of their plot of gain power in the volcano near Sardon. Will Bobo and his friends stop the ancient evil? Well we all know something good is bound to happen.

There is a lot of good things in this game. For one, it is a complete game. The story holds me attention. Excelent use of dialogue in certain areas. For instance the text for pirates is used as they would speak. Lastly there is good use of comedy throughout the game.

With the good comes the bad. I would say the worst part of the game is the repetitive battles. There is usually no more than two enemy different battle formations in a specific area. More formation sets the better. Also the enemies have to much HP. It gets tiring to play the same enemies over and over again, spending close to 5 minutes in a battle. Also many of the enemy graphics are exact duplicates of earlier ones. Put it kind of works out because the enemies have numbers by them which obviously displays there difficulty. Another bad area is the music. All the songs used in the game are the ones that come with the the engine. There isn't a lot of variety of music either. Probably about four or five different music files. Lastly are the graphics. They aren't done that well. The hero and enemy graphics are very blocky. The maptiles are pretty decent. The walkabout graphics are pretty basic figures. The backdrops don't stay very consistent. Some look really good, while others are so-so.

The bottomline is that the game is fun to play. It has a very well done storyline. You can always look past the repetitivness of the battles. It just adds more difficulty in the end. Some things need to be fixed before Al Barnes starts a new project. At one point I could continuously talk to a king and get $500 over and over again. At another part I could walk out into the ocean and didn't require the boat. There are a few spelling mistakes and thats pretty much it. I think this is a game that is worth a try.

Scores:
Graphics: They aren't very great, but I can tell what everything is.
7.5/10.0
Music: Same songs that come with the engine, enough said.
5.5/10.0
Storyline: This is the best part of the game. It is good enough to keep you going through the whole game.
9.0/10.0
Gameplay: As I said, the battles are very repertitive, although I do like the difficulty of the game.
7.0/10.0
Overall (Not an average score): The stroyline and humor saved the game. I liked to steal the pirates' gold continuously. I did take into account this is Al Barnes's first game. I had fun playing it, and I can only assume you will too.
8.0/10.0
