Runelind Saga - Part I: The Quest of Darkness

After all this reviewing of games like The Fallen Knight, BJ's Peanut Adventure, and Frog of Fortune, just to name a few, I can finally give a big sigh of relief.

  Ahh...

Erm, where was I? Runelind Saga is what I present to you here today. It is about 15 heroes who split into two halves (evil and good) and they created 15 Runes and sealed up the evil spirits into the Crystal of Darkness...and now they're breaking free from the crystal. The runes are the main source of magic on the world of Runelind (this is beginning to remind me strongly of my old, dumpy game, Runes of the Magi, except how I envisioned it, hehe). I don't want to give away too much more, because its got a good story that I don't want to spoil.

Graphics are definitely acceptable. They remind me of Royal's graphics for some reason...but nonetheless, they are done quite well and are pleasing to the eye. And the graphical animations you see of the characters are very cool indeed, especially the duel at the beginning.

The music is good in some places, mediocre in others. If its ripped, I haven't heard any of it, so I'm going to assume for the sake of argument that it is original, as that is what it seems to be.

The storyline is quite good. Though the rune thing seems to be a mix of Kartia's text and Suikoden's runes, its still interesting and done well.

Gameplay is pretty good. The rune system is nice and innovative, and may be even more complex in the future (maybe as complex as Kartia's?)

To sum up this review, Runelind Saga is a breath of fresh air from the recent slew of :cough: crappy games. If you have about 30-60 minutes to kill, download this.

Scores:
Graphics: The graphics for maptiles, animations, and walkabouts are very nice, but the battle graphics detract from the game a bit.
8.0/10.0
Music: Nice, probably original. You have some talent here.
7.5/10.0
Storyline: A nice, solid story with interesting ideas and excellent potential.
7.5/10.0
Gameplay: I never got bored and the animations are nicely done, but there are some noticeable spelling/grammar mistakes.
8.5/10.0
Overall (Not an average score): A fine game with excellent potential. Download and give a try.
7.5/10.0
