Worlds

When I looked at the "Games to Review" list, and saw Worlds was a 79 KB file, I figured that this review wouldn't take long, and it would be a good test to see how well I could review a short and sweet OHR game. I didn't know how wrong I was.

The game starts by abruptly dropping AS(the main character) in a ring of withered trees in some kind of desert with no clue of where to go. Talking to the blue blurb that As starts on reveals that Darnet can't get back to world 24, and he has to get going! Whoops, Darnet isn't a person, it means "darn it". Yeah, spelling and grammar errors are all over the place. Anyway, you leave the ring of trees and wander out into the desert. I spent over an hour(okay, fifteen minutes, but it felt like an hour) in this place just wandering around fighting some kind of scorpion every five steps. After consulting the mini-map I discovered that the map was HUGE, and the other portal was in the center. Damn newbie maps! After taking another death march to the portal, I was warped to some dark area. There were two cubes that acted as Inns(why they need two is something I'll never know), and some guy named Doc(who looked a lot like As with a pallete swap). While still completely clueless about what is going on, Doc will tell you to get a T-S gun from some guy named Yanto, and disappear after giving As a shotgun. Since you really have no other place to go, it's time to step into the other badly-animated portal. This dumps you in an area with grass, trees and water. Fortunately, this map isn't as large as the desert, there are no random encounters, and your destination is easily accessed. On arriving at the house, an old man is there and suggests you leave before "they" burn you for being a witch. Whatever. Outside and around the corner is the man you are looking for, who looks a lot like that old man inside the house, who looks like Doc, who looks like As. Hmm...? Anyway, Yento gives you the T-S gun and makes the remark that the T-S gun was stolen by Hue and his henchmen. Thats odd, he just gave you the gun. We will ignore the plot holes for now, and just move on.

Here we go into another dark passage with the Inn cubes and another person. His name is Jac and has apperently known As for over twenty years. After mentioning that this mission will be tough, he joins you. That's it. No backstory, no explanation, nothing. This fact somehow sends very violent messages through my brain for some apparent reason. Nevertheless, As and Jac go through the next portal to a forest where the trees look a little better than the preivous area. After following the path, you appear in some nameless town. Upon exploration, I discovered that you couldn't enter any of the houses, as they were all fenced up. To make matters worse, I ran into an NPC who put me in a battle against a wild hoodlum. You may ask yourself, "How tough could one hoodlum be against two guys with guns?" Well...in Worlds, very tough. I had to run away after the hoodlum destroyed As in one of his TEN hits. After using Alt-F5 in a battle and destroying the hoodlum, I discovered that he had over 1000 HP! Damn newbie battles! Ugh, the game goes into even more of a downward spiral as the door to the next area is more of the same: fenced off houses and even a linear path to follow. I eventually reached a break in the fence, which led to an invisible door into some house. After throughly ransaking the house(I grabbed the treasure chest), I spoke to the only person there who threatened me with his little COLT friend. And then...nothing. That's it?! Oh well, he should put and endgame screen or something....

Graphics - Horrible. The walkabouts were all the same, the maptiles were plain, and the indoor wall tiles that didn't match up with the floor itself drove me insane. In battle graphics were equally bad, as the enemies were very undetailed to the point of where you could mistake the Stinger(an enemy) for a transmission system.

Music - Mostly ripped from the engine, and other games. If there was anything original, than it sucked too. When you couldn't think it could get any worse, it did as it was badly placed too.

Storyline - I would call the storyline a non-stop-moron-a-thon if I knew what the hell was going on. There are NO hints on what you are doing at all times.

Gameplay - Very linear, and very trying on your patience.

Scores:
Graphics: Talk about laziness.
1.0/10
Music: The .5 is only because I couldn't identify some of the music, however it was still placed horribly.
1.5/10
Storyline: What storyline?
1.0/10
Gameplay: Nothing ever differed, nothing ever changed.
1.0/10
Overall (Not an average score): Worlds is a disease with only one cure: a loaded 9mm.
1.0/10
