Seeing as how this is my favorite time of year, I've decided to have a Halloween contest. There's only a few rules, and it's nothing too tricky.
Firstly, All entries are due by no later than 12:01 am EST Nov. 2nd. That means you can still do stuff on Halloween, and work on your game Nov. 1st to make up for it. Post your entries to the game list. Begin as soon as you wish. So long as you specify your game as an entrant in the contest, preferably both in game, and link to it in the contest thread, you are elligible.
The games will be judged in three areas: Fun, Creativity, and Scariness, on a scale of 0 to 10, including decimals. Judging will be done by whomever plays the games, including their designers. You must play and rate every game.
There are no requirements that the game must be Halloween based, but should it not be scary, it will naturally take a hit in that scoring department.
Edit: Cube has suggested the games be posted anonymously, to make the voting unbiased. I don't really know about this, but I agree it'd definitely make things fairer. So, if IM or Cube comes up with something, you'll see it here.

I'm in. Besides, I have to make something to test out the job system script, since FF3H is just taking too ODINDAMN long to program it in. (Hah. ODINDAMN gets around Setu's filter ) |

I'm in, as well. Despite the fact I'll be gone for 3 days during it, but it's long enough for that to not do too much tome. |

I'll give this one a shot. I don't know about the scariness rating, though. Even Purgatory wasn't scary, no offense Orchard _________________ You got film in my video game!

No offense taken. I bought a couple of new horror games (silent hill 3, Dark Fall) & rented some non-slasher horror movies (exorcist, the eye) as references for Purgatory. There's alot of things that I want to do but can't due to technology limitation. Dark Fall makes an excellent use of ambient noises... even if it's just whistling sound, creaking noises, thumping noises, or just whispering winds..they all add to the atmosphere. Sadly, SFX is a luxury that we don't have at this point. Also, I'd also like to confess... I don't think I've actually used OHR's visual potential to its limits as I originally planned. Despite the fallbacks, I'm quite proud of the game... it has an atmosphere and setting different from other OHR games, or so I believe.
Anyhow, yes, racking up for the scare points is going to be tough.
Good luck to those of you who are entering the contest!

Scary was SA-X blasting the sebelites out of me in less than 3 plasma-enhanced beam shots in a dark hallway.
And I won't enter, because last time I entered a haloween contest, I turned up some crap (http://www.castleparadox.com/cgi-bin/gamelist-display.php?game=149) shorter than Arfenhouse 2 with flashing lighting and blood and PS effects that didn't work at the time, and mostly diddn't work in version 1.01, and will gloriously illuminate its stupidty in version 1.1! _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

(I can get around Aeth's filters without using false gods instead of God.)
I personally do not think that you can make a game scary unless you have a super graphic program and sound. I've tried. |

Hmm, I guess this gives me an excuse to hold off from starting the Second Annual Epic Marathon Contest until sometime in November. Good thing because preparing it has been taking far longer than I anticipated.
And no, I won't be participating in the Halloween contest. _________________ Progress Report:
