I've been in a mood to do some insane pixelations lately (probably inspired by Fenrir's recent choice of avatars... Happy

) but I dont' really have any good progrmas to pixelate in.

I've tried the OHR, but I feel limited by size and progam usage.
I also tried MSPaint, but even though it worked decently well, I dislike the interface.

What do you people use for pixelation? If you can, please link to where I can get the program too. Happy

I use Ultimate Pain(t). The latest version costs money, but you can use an older version for free (downloadable). It doesn't seem to have layers, but you can load up to 10 pictures at once in different...picture slots, and rapidly cycle through them using the keyboard.

Ultimate Pain(t) has a few disappointing shortcomings, like the zooming can't be controlled by the keyboard, and you can't move the cursor by arrow keys, and there is only one level of undo, but I have found it to be a LOT easier to use than, say MSPaint.

Ultimate Paint can be found at www.ultimatepaint.com, which seems to be down right now. Huh?

One of the things that I really like about UP is that I can create custom swatches and all. I put the OHR palette in the first picture slot, the tiles that I'm working on in the second, and then the whole 320x200 tileset in the third slot. Whenever I need to get a new color swatch I can just press Alt+[ to go to the OHR palette, b to cut a box of colors, Alt+] to go back, and paste. Lots of keyboard shortcuts. Yay!

Try Deluxe paint. Get it at abandonware.com Its ok, but its great points are anti-aliasing, gradiant fill and transparency. only one level of undo, but has a few interesting pattern features. And its free. Licking lips

If you want a very good DOS-based pixeling program that is perfectly suited to the OHR, Deluxepaint is it. If you want something in Windows that isn't as perfectly suited to the OHR as Deluxepaint is but is close, then go with GIMP. Both are great pixeling programs.

version 7 is great, multiple layers, various effects, vector(scalable lines) and bitmap drawings.

palettes are importable, or exportable.

lots of other stuff to play with too.
