Now then, there probably is a rule somewhere on the site concerning this, but it's not overly apparant, so I'll ask here: What prevents all of the unique ideas presented here and all other boards from being "stolen" and such? I remember a long time ago in Zantetsuken when Haggard himself asked this question, and I see his point. I'm not saying the |\|3\/\/8135 are thieves (waitaminute, there's ripped sprites and music, but those are usually obvious), but I want a little more "idea-protection" policies. I'll be super-merry-go-round-pissed-off if I present my game ideas here and later everyone has a game with a mysterious guy with a sideways cape and a Spanish ninja! If I can be sure my thoughts are safe here, I'll proceed to tell you guys all about my wonderous game ideas.

I was actually going to post something about this (and still am) about why we have Gametesters and not Storytesters. Basically, people steal ideas, sometimes purposfully, sometimes unintentionally. If you read Lacrymosa's story, you'll find stuff in there from Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Wingedmene, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 6, Legend of Dragoon (only a little! *dodges ninja stars being thrown at him*), etc. But in truth as a whole its completely original.

Erm. The point is, people should steal if and only if they have permission, and then it isn't stealing its using.

But yeah. Its also the question as to why RPG files have password-protection (none of mine do). People are theves who want to pass off other's work as their own because they are naturally lazy. BAH.

actually, the reason my files are password protected isn't to prevent stealing (as me daddy says, locks are to keep honest people honest. thieves will find a way to steal stuff anyway. all you need is a hex editor to find out passwords anyway)... it's to keep people from going in and spoiling the story for themselves. i'm quite aware that some of the stuff i don't want spoiled can be seen in the earlier versions of w;p1 that are not password protected... but i'm trusting that not many people have that file anymore and most have moved on to the 25% version.

Honestly, Sir Phoenix was a little steamed about the new PS2 Arc the Lad game.

Now, we both knew it was sheer coincidence, but the physical appearance of a Deimos in that game was the EXACT physical description that Sir Phoenix had of adult dragonsprings.

There are times of paranoia where you feel like someone with the money to copyright an idea is listening over your shoulder......

LeRoy's always angry about big corps. "stealing" his ideas, which in essence wasn't really stealing, but simply thinking along the same lines. Great minds think alike, I believe the phrase goes. Something like that. Yeah. Well that's MY two cents, now I'm poor XD

So, at the begining of an idea thread, if I say "this is so copyrighted", then people can't steal my ideas? I mean, they aren't even OHR games, but what I'll make when I grow up. I'd like to state my ideas in order to recieve feedback, but if some punk sells them to Sony, my life-long dreams would be shattered.

oh, big corps stealing our ideas? yeah, i've felt that way before... anyone besides me notice how much the lead protagonist of dark cloud looks like laubea in w;p1? the biggest difference between the two is hair color, bandana color, and laubea has pointed ears.

Once you create something, under US law it is copyrighted. the "THERE WAS NO NOTICE" myth is very popular but still bunk. However, you can only sue for cease and desist - registering your copyright (a whole 20$!) allows you to sue for damages.

The thing is that you have to prove that you used it first. Otherwise, taking someone to court is kind of pointless...

I've felt that way too, Minnek. I remember a thread awhile ago about how uniqueness in games was very rare because the big corps were publishing the same ideas as us. Long ago, I made a game called Forsaken Sides. The main combat system was called "chips" then along comes the Mega Man Battle Network series. Originality is very rare these days, copyright protection won't really help, will it? I wish it did.

What's really unfortunate and sad was I thought I was being original with my storyline for Partisan Legacy I. Albeit it's not a carbon copy of another's story, it's really not...original. Though that's probably just what the 50% demo is telling me and Shadow... perhaps I'm wrong. We'll just have to wait and see how everyone views the storyline in the finished version (warning, version has cliffhanger Ha ha ha!)
