Hey all! I have an idea for a game- but i need your opinions. I don't want to spend ages making a game nobodys going to play. I was thinking along the lines of a game about demons- you know, fallen angels, dark magic, Satan. I'm not a Satanist or anything it just seemed like a good idea. So, what do you think?

Look at Diablo 2 and how good it was. Although I don't like to make games about Hell Heaven wars and magic, I would say if you use your card right, you can create something good.

Go for it. If nobody else'll play it, at least I will, right? Right!? ... err... nevermind. I like the idea though. If you can pull it off it might end up on my list of favorite games. (No, I am not a Satanist either, I just like the idea.)

Epic battles between Heaven and Hell are fun. I write a lot of stories like that.

As long as you don't just make it "demons are bad and we're gonna fight them" it could be cool. Do something creative with it. Doing weird stuff with religion can make some cool games (Xenogears, for example).

Demons are bad?! Hell no! My original idea is that you PLAY a demon, and you kind of, well, erm.. yeah. my ideas run out there. I've never seen/played Xernogears. What is it like?[/code]

That could be interesting. But avoid the trap of "you start out as a bad guy but then repent and join the good guys" cause that's been way overdone. Playing as a Fallen could be an interesting spin on the rebellion theme you see in a lot of RPGs.

It's hard for me to describe without spoiling the story.

Ever seen Neon Genesis Evangelion? Xenogears is like that only...different.

Eh. Basically twisted versions of Biblical references (NGE) and just contradiction/contortion of religion in general (Xenogears). Both excellent media, by the way.

I love you !(in a very non-gay way)

by the way the game would work very well with a hirachy system.

I like to write from both sides. This is very interesting for me, as some of the Fallen end up being funner characters than a few Oracles. Heck, Cletus is almost villainous with how he denies assistance to Morpheus, and Eris is, at times, one of my favorites characters I have.

Oh, and Azrael and Thanatos own you all.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend reading Paradise Lost by John Milton. Satan is the main character (and arguably the hero) in the story.

Yes, I've read the first book, for research, mostly. I should probably read the other eleven, but it was a little boring (for the record, it takes a lot for me to consider something that way).

I never had a problem with it being boring, but at some places it's pretty incomprehensible. I only read the first 250 pages cause that was what I needed for my literature class. I'll probably read the rest eventually.
