I need help, sorry if this doesn't relate to any announcements...
Well anyways if anyone has any clues to what may be wrong please reply.

I am having problems connecting to the internet on my main computer with all my files. There's nothing wrong with my connection and I don't think it's another virus (I hope it isnt) The problem is that as soon as my modem finishes dialing, my computer just gives up on the connection and displays
"Failed to connect to remote computer. Unable to establish a connection"
Every single time I try it does this. If anyone has any ideas, please tell me so I can try it (As long as it doesn't involve wiping my hard drive again)
Thanks!

one question, if your modem doesn't work... how'd you get online...?

i'll call your service provider and bug the shit out off them to help you with your problem... if that fails... beats me... usually at this point i'd format my windows partition and start anew with all my files saved in my file partition.

I have access to a laptop, that's how I'm posting this. And the problem is not with my ISP, there's something in my computer that won't allow me to log on. 'm trying to figure it out...

Is there an option somewhere that asked something like "Attempt to connect for # seconds?" Maybe it's set for 0 seconds.

I occasionally get this error too... I just give up and come back a couple of hours later.

Well no matter how long I wait, it still does the same thing every single time I try. My ISP is fine, I've tried it on other computers to see if it was something wrong with my connection, but it's not. I'm going to keep looking before I have someone look into it

There are several things you can do..and here they are:
1) Check the line. Pick up the phone and listen to the static to figure out if there's too much line noise. You might want to change the telephone wire, or the phone.
2) Check the modem. Does it make static noise, not the regular noise but actual noise. That'll probably mean you have too much line noise, change the phone line.
3) Check the modem configuration. There's really nothing you can do about this part. But if you have the drivers reinstall it.
4) Neutral Maybe you do have some virus, so scan it.

oh well, if bad comes to worse you could always back up your data and format your harddrive (or at least that partition, ignore this if you have no idea what this is.)

definately check for static in phonelines and modems. it can the most missed problem when it comes to connection problems...
well, in your case it would be modem, seeing as you can connect with a different computer with no problem.

Why are you all so happy go lucky with the format drive button? Just contact you IPS or go to the PC man. The time it'll take you to format the drive, reinstall Windows, install all your games and programs (though I notice many games ran fine after I accidently deleted C: drive, just missing font etc) could be days and days.

And I've never heard of a virus thattrys to prevent you from accessing the internet. What's the sense in that?

Damn...don't ever listen to a thing Aragorn says now.
The original Aragorn gave his account to someone else who has no place here.
