|

SDHawk and I are hosting the first "Do more with Less" contest. The rules are simple enough.
You have to make a game in the OHR, but we limit you on everything, (such as only 5 walkabout sets) But on top of this, we give you 5000 points. You use these points to buy extra things (ie, more walkabout sets).
Here is a list of the limitations:
Half a Tileset ( 80 tiles) ................................................N/A
5 Walkabouts ................................................100 Points for 1
1 Hero sets ................................................ 500 Points for 1
3 Small Monsters............................................... 300 Points for 1
2 Med Monsters ................................................ 400 Points for 1
1 Large Monsters................................................ 500 Points for 1
5 Attacks (Graphics)................................................ 100 Points for 3
2 weapon................................................ 100 Points for 1
4 Backdrops................................................ 500 Points for 1
1 Map (No larger than 1008 (Think X139 Y71) )................................................ 1000 Points for 1
1 Hero................................................ 500 Points for 1
6 Monsters................................................ 400 Points for 1
5 Attacks................................................ 300 Points for 1
16 Items................................................ 200 Points for 1
1 Shop................................................ 500 Points for 1
20 Battle Formations................................................ 100 Points for 1
4 Battle sets................................................ 500 Points for 1
100 text boxes (2 Choice boxes)................................................ 100 Points for 5
Extra Choice boxes........................................100 points for 2
1 Vehicle................................................ 200 Points for 1
32 Tags................................................ 100 Points for 5
2 Bams................................................ 200 Points for 1
75 doors................................................ 100 Points for 10
1 Script. (Limit to 64 lines of the script itself, 5 variables, and no autonumbers)................................................ N/A
5 Attacks per Hero................................................ 200 Points for 1 Attack (Adds to all heros)
2 Attacks per Enemy................................................ 100 Points for 1 Attack (Adds to all Enemies)
1 Animation................................................ 400 Points for 1
You may only use 4 Colors for all your maptiles/ Walkabouts (NOTE: Even though Its 4 colors for Walkabouts, and 4 colors for Maptiles, these do not have to be the same colors for both. ie, you can use red, blue, green, and yellow for all your maps, and Black, purple, orange, and pink for all your walkabouts.) Also note that you can buy an extra color for 1000 Points a pop.
Also, for those of you who really need points to buy more things, you can sell the things you already start with for half the price. You can't sell any more than half of the original number and if you only have 1 of a certain thing, you cannot sell it.
The contest will start right now, and end friday ( I mean, honestly, how much can you do with these limitations?) I ask that all .rpgs are left unpassworded, so I can make sure you aren't trying to pull a fast one on me. And for buying/selling things, please post all of that in this thread, so others can see what you are doing with your points. Also add the points you have left at the end of your post, so I don't get a headache from all the numbers.
Good luck to everyone!

I'm sure your contest is great and all but... But... We have had a lot of contest lately. Some have drained us of our faith in these contests. Such as my extreme dissappointment in the Halloween Contest. And Human Day just ended. So you see... Maybe if you waited until let's say mid January or Febuary for this it would be nice. Anyways, good luck with it. If you get more than the Halloween Contest (mere 4). _________________ ---------------Projects----

Right, Red. Let's NOT make games that challenge us, or themed games. Sorry man, but... no. Contests usually give us about the best games we get.
Also, we didn't get as many contests at this time as like two years ago. Good thing Scy came in with the 39 minute contest and gave us a good laugh, though. |

There is no point to this rule if there can only be one script. |

Wonderful idea for a contest, but I hate contests (mostly because I lose my work ethic mid-way into it) so I'm not entering. Oh, and Sew, check your private messages. _________________

Well, the reason I am doing this contest now, is because this is the last week before school starts back up for a lot of people.
Also, to clear things up:
You get 4 colors for all Walkabouts. AND 4 different colors for all your maptiles.
EDIT: You can use any 4 colors but NO GREYSCALE.

Underneath point values, you have small/medium/large monsters (300/400/500 points for 1) listed, along with just 'monsters' (6 for 400 points). Is this intentional?
Edit: Nevermind, I realized that one was a graphical purchase and one was a data purchase. _________________ Long road ahead. Ready to walk? |

I have two quick clarification questions.
1) When you say that there can only be 4 colors for maptiles does that mean that ALL the maptiles use those same 4 colors or that each maptile can only have 4?
2) As far as the animating tiles go, it says 1 animation. Does that mean that there can only be one animating tile or that there can be one animation script that can be used multiple times? |

All the maptiles must use the same 4 colors. And it's one animating tile.
Also, yes, Bam will be limited to 9 Channels at max.

Oh.. yeah, wait, it was you. I remember now.
I thought it was 47 hours and I said "the clever bastard ditched an hour." But really it was like all of them.
Also, weren't there like 3?
(bill?) the desk, blankscreen(empty file though... heh), and Christopher Walken? |

So, basically, you want a game that looks like Magnus. _________________ But enough talk, have at you! |

Why can't we use greyscale? It's part of the top 16 colors. Dark grey, light grey, and white. Sounds good to me..
Oh, and are you counting transparancy as one of the colors? |
