Hello denizens of the OHR community! Its been many years since I've appeared around the OHR to talk about a game I'm making. This is one of those days. I suppose this is something I'm doing to actually have a good finished project on my hands, and to mark the end of an age. So, without further ado, Kain Minter and my Final Fantasy spinoff game! (Yes, these usually suck, I know, but continue reading nonetheless).

I'm not going to spoil any of the story for you, but I will give you an idea of what we've been working on for the past 6 months. Basically, its a Final Fantasy using the OHR's engine, which is basically a Final Fantasy engine. Why a fan game? Well, lets face it, OHR games aren't marketable anyway, so why not have fun with it? Ok, too much typing, heres another screenshot!

Like all the modern Final Fantasy games, this one will include a card game plotscripted in Hamsterspeak for your amusement. This took a few weeks to accomplish by itself. Cards are basically the physical representation of your abilities. You can either use cards on your heroes to teach them a new ability or spell (and thus consuming the card), or keep them to win other abilities by playing against NPCs in the card game.

Heres a scene of one of the towns in the game.

Heres a random enemy encounter on the overworld!

A piece of the overworld.

A battle in a forest!

A cave somewhere.

And theres a sneak peek of FFG. I'll post updates occasionally if anyone is interested in staying up to date with its development. But, that's all I have right now!

this actually looks good, seems like you've been working in your absence.
It's good to see you back shaede, haven't seen you since zant (even than it was rare).
let's hope this actually comes out as a demo at least and not let it be a faded image, like many other games that were announced then abandoned. Neutral

Yes. So many games were announced and completely abandoned. I certainly know (and have experienced multiple times) exactly what you mean. Though I hold no absolute guarentee to finish this game (theres no way I can do that), I do promise that I have every intention of doing so, as does my partner Kain. I kind of see this as my ultimate test to finishing a huge project for once.

FF Gaiden has many features, which will assure a slow release date which promises to be pushed back multiple times should it near completion.
- Many original characters, including secret ones.
- At least 40 hours of gameplay, with side quests galore.
- Optional super bosses.
- Card minigame.
- Tons of spells and abilities. Some old, some new.
- Classic Final Fantasy monsters and mascots from Moogles to Molboros.
- And more stuff that I can't remember at the moment because my caffiene vessels are running out of blood.

I understand being skeptical at someone (especially me) popping up announcing such a herculeon task. I promise that I'll try my best not to dissapoint. Happy

Holy crap. At first glance, I thought those battle backgrounds were actual photos.

I finally now have a second example that OHR Final Fantasy fangames are actually well liked. I've a hunch this may eventually make it to the top 5 on our main page IF it gets released. Either way, best of luck to you on your project.

Hey, Shaede. I haven't seen you since like.. a month before the Gamingforce forums died.
Anywho I'm gonna comment on the art because I am a fanatic of pixelating and all that is related.
SHOT A) I love the gradiented pose of a character.. but they're usually more centered and in a blue or pinkish color. Also, there's usually only one.. um the bg and text I'd say SHOULD BE reversed, but I can see why you didn't for the square logo. Recently they've been doing something like writing (C) 19##/200# SQUARE. Just encouraging matching, though.
SHOT B) BG is a bit boring, and it doesn't "match" well. The cards are all yay happiness and the BG is dark and un-yay happiness.
SHOT C) I absolutely fucking LOVE the detail you put in there. Tree looks a bit awkward with repeating leaves but otherwise tis fine. However, the repetitive rocks and walkabout kill my love to it. Totally. There was all of this detail spread out and then the glaring rocks just. >.<
SHOT D) You are a god damn genius for your work on the mountains, trees, grass, and.. um the BG in general. Sky doesn't appeal much though(tis the clouds). Sprites lack consistency but are good.
SHOT E) This is really good. I LOVE how you did the terrain with the rocky ledges and the curve of the hill etc. Houses and inner parts are a bit bland, but still good. Path way looks awkward in the grass(looks like the grass is darkened instead of the dirt being spread more. I like the way the water is done, but it looks awkward with the "shineys". They're a bit too bright. Don't like the transition of the shore line to deep water, though. It seems too er.. "emphasized."
SHOT F) Lacking consistency in sprites, and the dirt is poor. Trees(except the way far back ones. Maybe add a shine of the outer light onto them.) and rocks are good. Sky again is odd.
SHOT G) Ground is too boring. However, walls and ceiling are excellent. I especially love how you actually made a transition of the water instead of throwing two tiles next to each other.

All in all, they look really good. Glad to see you back.

Shaede! Good to see you back around here again, and this looks pretty awesome. The graphics are incredible...now make the gameplay and story equally as incredible. ^_^

Whoa! Those are really good. Perhaps a matched great gameplay will make this an OHR favourite. It looks really cool, due to it's well appeal and outstandingly sensational graphics. I have no idea who you are, but you are very talented. I wish I could make graphics like that (which I cannot compare with. Mine are trash compared to those.)

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!
I'm glad you all enjoyed the screenshots.
We weren't originally going to release any information on this game until it was near completion, but I felt that if I got some comments and feedback we'd be even more motivated to complete this game. After all these replies after such a short time, I think my plan may have worked. Thanks everyone.

Ahh, Gamingforce. They didn't exactly die, but mass deleted everything several times. On the third time, I just got tired of reregistering. That was certainly an odd board.
