To be honest, BAMs are always going to sound terrible. That's just something we all have to live with.

However, you can only have 9 voices sounding at the same time. If you open a MIDI file in MIDI2BAM, you'll notice as you play it that instruments will be listed as the song plays. They will even change constantly throughout the whole piece. These are the instruments that MIDI2BAM is allowing to pass through.

There are a few possible ways to deal with this problem:

1) Stick with a simple piece that won't be using a lot of voices

2) Just write your music however you want to and live with what gets cut out.

That's about all I can tell you. If you need to know how to work MIDI2BAM or Notate, check it out here:

It's strange, whenever I start NOTATE, it has random coloured blobs all over the place.

It's always like that when you start up Notate for the very first time. Just press Ctrl-X to get rid of all the blobs...

I remember a long time ago the very first song I composed I used Notate. It was a town theme and it was really good, sounded pretty good as well... IF you want to have good sounding bams I suggest using Notate, but Notate is not a great program to work with sometimes. I just wish I still had that BAM somewhere so I could post an example.

To be honest, I don't ever work with Notate, `cause I think that composing with it is much more time consuming than just doing it real-time.

I use MIDI Orchestrator, that came with my craptacular Windows 95 computer. I make the MIDIs with my keyboard, then I convert them to BAM. But, then again, not everyone has the advantage of pre-packaged MIDI software.

You could probably check out Anvil Studio, which is a fairly easy to use program from what I've heard.
