I've played this.
You are going to need to improve a lot.
1) "Wingedmene Syndrome". Intro textboxes should be user-advanceable. I found I had to wait what seemed like a minute after I was finished reading your textboxes.
2) Spend 1000 ore and 500 vespene gas and research pronouns. You often could have used them instead of names, which makes the text feel less like you're trudging through it.
3) Text coloring is not consistent. First it's one color, then in one scene each character has a specific color, then it's back to the single color again. You must be consistent and give each character a color or do one color overall. Also! Please choose colors that contract better with the background, or use the actual text "box".
4) It seems like you throw too much information at the player in the intro alone. Combined with the unadvanceable textboxes and sluggish text, I quit the game right after I walked around the house for a while, because I didn't want to get dragged through another cutscene. Either make the introduction more interactive or interesting(actually show the events instead of big clunky textboxes, make the battle actually playable) or dole out information gradually in the beginning.
5) The mirror effect. Either you do it or you don't. The hero suddenly popping up in her mirror looks really cheesy and bad. Make the mirror about as big as a tile, then have a NPC that follows the hero's x behind it, so that it appears the reflection actually follows her as she walks past. If you don't want to do this then don't show her reflection when she says her little quip of text.
6) The light on the floors does not match the shape of the window.
7) Character and item names. It seems you have chosen to use Japanese exlusively for names/items while using English for everything else. The game characters don't practice Japanese custom and do not speak the language. It also is not apparent that they actually live in Japan, either. Either choose new names that fit better or actually make it feel like I'm walking around a Japanese home. _________________

First off, I have witty retort for that, shut up. Fyre, that was hardly constructive criticism, you just don't like SA. Try improving your own game instead of talking shit to the people who are doing a great job.
The game is beautiful for one thing. I've not played an incredible lot of it, but enough to know that it's one of the more beautiful games on the OHR. The use of colors is great. The light from the windows is a nice touch, I love that the character blinks, I love that you can see her in the mirror, and that she faces the direction you're facing. I could go on, but I'm pressed for time. More later.
EDIT: Also, the hand drawn portrait detail is apprciated. The music is well selected, this is one of those games where it's just plain pleasant to walk around. The battles are bit frustrating, because you're thrown into a semi-difficult battle before you're familiar with the way your character fights.
There are some awesome graphical touches, especially in the story scenes, like the gentle fading in and out of a sepia tone coloring for the flashback. You've gone above and beyond the graphical call of duty with this game. I may review this game once I've played the whole thing. I may also review Pac Man OHR just to use as a counter example I can point to.

I know this is completely off topic but, I just feel aggravated by the first part of the game's name. Senshi of Hikari? It feels like a cliche title. It's as bad as linking Geisha to Hentai in the same sentence.
sorry, I just can't control myself around games that have two names/nouns surrounding 'no' in their title. Must be a curse. Still, great game. _________________

Hikari no Senshi = Senshi of Hikari = Soldiers of Light = Light Warriors
It's pretty common to have some sort of military force coupled with "Light" nowadays in games. Anyone who thinks the title is a blatant rip off is probably mistaken. |
