I am currently working on a game intended to capture the nightmare state of a child while retaining a practically comical without being too strange to understand and enjoy. What I'd like you all to do is describe your nightmares when you were young so I have good material as reference. Now remember: a nightmare isn't just scary: it's a dream that, even if it was completely joyful, scared you enough to send you crying into your parents room.

Umm... I had a dream that my Dad turned into a mermaid once.
And another time I would dream that Hot Dogs were trying to get me.
No jokes.
... now I'm scared.
Hold me. |

I once dreamed that I was dreaming....
It was a dark night. I was walking down the street when this mouse fell down on my neck! I woke up and realized I was on my bed. Then, another mouse fell down on my neck! Then, that's when I really woke up.... it was freaky.....
Then I have this nightmare when I was 5 o 6. I was being chased by a pig..... _________________ The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on.

Funny that you should make this topic...I had a nightmare last night: Somebody had gone through my computer at work and deleted every last shred of the work that I'd done this summer. _________________ ~Pyro

I had a really wierd nightmare.
There was this REALLY hot girl and we were about to make out, and she leaned in on me and said 'Matt, I have something I want to tell you'
I replied 'What is it?'
And she calmly said 'I am so poor I can't afford food' and bit my hand off.
I woke up right after that, it creeped the sh!t outta me....
Oh, and it wasn't a nightmare, but a hallucination, but it could give you some ideas.
I was on benedryl (that can REALLY fvck you up...I had 6 pills of it i thnk) last night, just hanging out, when the sleepy qualities of the drug started to kick in. I decided I'd go get some coke. (The pop, I'm not THAT much of a druggie)
I opened my bedroom door and there was a wierd light in the guest room. I stared at it about two or three seconds.
Suddenly a strange birdlike, alieny face was staring at me. I almost sh!t my pants right there, seriously, but I just ran backj to my room and closed my door, back up against it.
Haha I was so freaked until I checked up on Erowid.com, and, sure enough, benedryl can be a hallucinogen haha. |

when i was about 5 or 6 i had this wicked freaky dream:
i woke up in my bed and could hear this banging on the attic door, so i went to check it. so i turned the light on to see the door at the top of the stairs and it was being bashed in and nearly coming off the henges. then i kind of quietly said "hello is anyone there?" and the banging stopped suddenly. then a voice said "Kyle.... Kyle... open the door Kyle, KYLE OPEN THE DOOR!" then the banging started up again and the screaming continued.
i ran to my parents bedroom and told my parents, them being lazy as ever told me it was just a dream and said they'ed by there in just a moment. i ran back to the attic stairway and the screaming was still going on but now more intense along with the banging. My parents didnt show up so i ran back to their room, the blankets were up over their faces now. so i walked up to my dad and shook up, no movement. shook him again, no movement. i finally took the blanket off of him, god it was the scariest torn apart face i had ever seen.
i backed into a corner and hid under a blanket, then i heard the attic door smash open and peices of wood falling down the attic stairs. then the voice said "Kyle... im coming for you... im going to kill you Kyle..." the voice got nearer and nearer... and then i woke up.
i was so freaked out by that i no longer ran to my parents bedroom whenever i had a freaky dream. i just pulled the covers up over me and shoved my head under the pillows. _________________ Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

... the talk of hallucinations reminds me of one I had recently. I wasn't drugged up or anything, but I seem to go through at least one sleep paralysis episode a week, and they get increasingly worse, with freakier and freakier hallucinations to go with them.
Anyway... I was on my bed, and I couldn't get up, and couldn't breath. I knew somewhere in the back of my mind it was a hallucination, and slapped myself, but couldn't feel anything, due to the fact that my hands weren't actually moving from my sides. And then I caught sight of something in a black shroud outside my window, rather like a ringwraith, with an outstretched hand, choking me Darth Vader style.
Come to think of it, I'm gonna start sleeping with a Bible under my pillow, or at least one of those pocket-New Testaments. |

I remember a thread just like this...
oh well...
(Junahu cracks his knuckles in preparation)
One time I dreamed I was pushed off a ladder high above the stratosphere by Orville the duck (When I find a picture of him I'll post it).
Another time Ronald McDonald broke into my house and attacked me. Another time I was sat upon by the stay puff marshmallow man. Another time I had to sit an exam in a fast food restaraunt/train. Another time Ronald Mcdonald pioneered a dinosaur attack on my school. Another time the planet was overthrown by giant hamsters which turned the world into one big bouncy castle.
Arrrgh!
I scared myself. _________________

Been watching Ghost Busters?
I'm an arachniphobe (sp?), and being a person with a great imagination, I usually end up having nightmares with giant spiders and whatnot.
Also, I have a dream occasionally (same dream, or very nearly, each time) where I'm running as fast as I can and not going anywhere, while millions of other people are just cruising on by. Then it always switches to being lost in some giant building (I can't ever figure out what it's supposed to be), and having drank one of those 32oz. Coke cups and not being able to find a toilet. I hate those. _________________ ~Pyro

When I was about 9 or so, I had a rather scary nightmare (which was only scary at the time). Well, here it is:
I was sleeping in my bed. I woke up and climbed down the stairs (it was a bunk bed). I went to my mom and dad's room to ask them for a snack. When I opened the door to their room, a hideous gorilla-like monster was standing in front of their bed and it stared at me with an ugly glare.
I don't know what made the monster so scary; the fact that it was ugly or the fact that it was big.
Here's one I had a couple of months ago (but its nowhere around scary):
I looked outside of the window to my house. An odd bird of paradise was in the tree branch. The bird swooped down and attacked a snake that was on the ground (I think it was a copperhead). The bird got attacked from behind by a brightly colored snake and then was down. The snakes double-teamed the bird and it probably died. I don't know because I looked away after I saw them double-teaming it.
Weird, eh? |

This doesn't count as a dream exactly but...
sometimes when I was falling asleep I got the sensation that I was falling.
As soon as I realise this, BANG! My body would jerk as if it had just landed on the ground. It used to scare the hell out of me _________________

God, i had the most annoying dream ever...
It was like i was having a fight with someone that i really hated so much, i just wanted to kill this person... (don't know who it was in real life) but in this dream no matter how much i tried to beat this person my arms would not hit strongly i felt weak like trying to fight awake but being asleep without knowing you are asleep, it's wierd but i managed to wake myself up by sheer coinsidence i found my hand was in a lot of pain... My sister told me that she saw me swing my fist across the bed into the bedside table, it really hurt... from then on i don't really have dreams anymore...
It's like i can resist it now, i have won the fight... _________________ "That child is sickening." -TMC |

I just had a weird nightmare last night:
I was trying to hug a girl that I liked and who liked me. For some reason she was hesitant, but she did it anyway. When I got home and looked in the mirror, both of my ears had earrings on them. What's more? My left ear had about three earrings (two being girly ones). |
