This regards Shadowii's Janken Janken review.

I agree on all points of his review. It was shameful of me to steal graphically and conceptually from their members. It was even worse of me to consider the game to be in a 'finished' state. And in general, my game deserved worse than just a D-.

HOWEVER. Three things spring to mind when I read the review. Things that made me feel angry and (almost) betrayed. Of course, these things still do not excuse my game (far from it), but considering Shadowii is usually a brilliant reviewer...

First of all, Shadowii reviewed the old version of Janken Janken. So? It's easy for people to review one version of a game to find an update was made yesturday. What is not excusable though is when the update was several months ago. Among the changes that shadowii wouldn't have noticed

no 'bats'
an explanation (of sorts)

These things won't have swayed the review (at all) towards a better score (and again I would like to say I don't deserve a better score) but it's still insulting to know that the game I have currently up is not the one under Shadowii's scrutiny.

Second point, this appeared in RMZ's review too. No matter how many times someone says so, none existant AI is a LIE. What people should have said was that AI was not apparent or did not create any noticable changes to strategy. There IS AI in Janken Janken. If there was no AI, the computer player would ALWAYS ATTACK. WOULD ALWAYS ATTACK A RANDOM CARD. WOULD ALWAYS ATTACK WITH A RANDOM CARD. But there is AI. The computer player uses weighted decision making to choose a course of action. The computer is probably more aware of whats going on during the game than the human player. I really pisses me off when people say that there is no AI in the game, because there is (it's probably just too subtle to notice because of the limitations of the game's concept)

Third point, this is the least apparent of my complaints. During both reviews, the reviewer consistantly blamed the problems with the game on poor execution. Not once did either reviewer consider that Janken Janken was just a stupid concept to begin with.

ROCK PAPER SCISSORS IS A RANDOM GAME. THE ILLUSION OF STRATEGEY IS BROUGHT ABOUT BY TRYING TO SECOND GUESS THE OPPONENT'S MOVE (AGAIN, COMPLETELY RANDOM). JANKEN JANKEN IS BASED OFF THIS CONCEPT SO NATURALLY IT TOO BECOMES A RANDOM GAME (OTHERWISE IT BETRAYS ITS HERITAGE).

If anyone thought that Janken Janken could ever be a serious game, they need help... badly. It's just rock paper scissors for crying out loud! You can't do much with it!

end rant (Read the first paragraph again if you thought that post was just me sticking up for a crap game. Emphasis on crap.)

edit: I'm removing the game right now before someone else (quite rightly) complains.

I have only one thing to say to you:

If you can't take criticism, don't make games.

I'm pretty sure I had the latest version, because I re-downloaded it and played it again just in case. The explination still wasn't enough to help me play the game suitably, sorry.

Don't bother removing it. I belive you've made your peace with most of the authors whose material you used, so ifyou are deleting it because of that then...you are stupid. As for it being random, well too bad it was random and hence wasn't very fun. That's still no reason to delete it.

Were I in your position, I would simply replace the graphics, or contact the authors and see if they'd be okay with you retaining them. Aside from this, I had no gripes with the game at all.

As for adding an element of strategy.... perhaps if you could place bets on the outcome of each round?

I didn't believe them when they said there was no AI. Actually, it wasted me, it was too good. This might have had something to do with the fact that I didn't fully understand the game.

I suggest that you get permission from all the authors to use their characters in your game, and if you don't have it, replace the graphics with something else. Then improve the explanation and upload a new version.

Your game isn't going to be deleted because it has reviews, so at the least change the name of the game back.

However, I am really confused. Did Janken steal any graphics? I thought he drew everything himself?

It did actually steal some graphics, particularly on the Terrible Games theme, which, among other ripped sprites, had walkabouts from OMG THIS ROXORS TOO MUCH and a hero graphic from PAIN AND SUFFERING (my own game), and Junahu never asked permission.

My advice on the subject is... Get over it. And put your game back up on the list dude. When Shadowiii reviewed Mr.Triangle's Maze Madness I felt all good and then MCW reviewed it and brought a lot of things to my attention. Reviews aren't meant to make you happy, they're supposed to bring things to your attention. Besides, I hate my MegamanX4 game and yet it's gotten nearly 300 downloads and a review. So just deal with it.
