These preliminary screenshots should give you an idea of how the game plays. Eric has no costumes or weapons in these screenshots, so he's just running around collecting Gold Candy to buy things and get points for the Third Scary Game Contest. Sorry if they appear a bit dark -- they're much easier to see when you're playing the game. (I did brighten them up a little.)
(Actually, though, both of those screenshots will be impossible in the full game -- in the first, he's just grabbed a candy that's out of reach without any costumes and the second is in an area of the mansion that requires several costumes to reach. In both, he has 600 regular candies, well above the amount he can carry for that part of the game.)
So, anyway... SG fans rejoice! And thank fenix for l33tifying the game with his maptilian genius! |

Hype + 200
So, I assume there will still be mini games like in the first 2?
Good luck on the programming, you probably won't need it _________________ You got film in my video game!

Minigames: Yes, but probably more in the form of puzzles and obstacles (i.e. pass = continue with your game, fail = retry).
PLATFORMING ACTION: YES. AND IT WILL ROCK. (It will be like Mega Man X, Castlevania, and Metroid all in one scary game!) |

I like it, but I almost feel betrayed by the revamping of the Scary Game mini game tradition! Oh well, I'll give a chance still, but I'm not too excited about it being a platformer. Though Symphony of the Night is one of my favorite games ever and I hate Mega Man and never liked Metroid, and it IS a Moogle1 game. I'm excited of course, but worried too! I've known you for innovative gameplay, so my fear is that it'll be too generic a platformer and not Moogle1ey enough. _________________ BANDIT REVOLVER, DOWNLOAD IT OR ELSE.

You raise a valid concern. Let me reassure you, though -- that is, when have I ever made anything that was generic? Probably my most generic game was Never Forget, which still had a lot of goodies to make it interesting past your standard RPG fare.
I had actually planned to stray somewhat from the strict SG formula, but feedback tells me not to head too far into uncharted waters. So, never fear, it'll still be a Scary Game. On the other hand, it will also be an action platformer. I dunno, there's something more fun about being able to jump, plus the appeal of getting extra "moves" like walljump, dash, walljump, double-jump, and... did I mention walljump? (There's something innately elite about walljumping.)
Bottom line: Yes, it is a different style. I thought I'd try something different. But, when I say this, it's not like Square "trying something different" with FFMQ or by swapping Amano out for whoever did FF8's character design. It's like... trying something different with Brave Fencer Musashi... wait, I'm overstretching this analogy, aren't I?
Bottom bottom line: It'll be fun. That's really the only assurance I can give you. I showed the design docs to a civilian, non-designer friend of mine, who looked at them and told me he wanted to play the game. So, you should, too.
PS. It's not exactly a standard platformer, either, despite the platformer action hype. Think of, uh, Castlevania: COTM (probably SOTN, too, but I've never played it) + the original Prince of Persia for the best description I can give you of the gameplay. |

This game sounds so good it makes me want to cancel some of my projects so I'll have more time to play it.
Actualy I think I'll do just that. _________________

Those shots look wicked... Looks like a decent platformer. Think you can stand up to Trailblazers ? It looks good. Cant wait for the release, havent played the first 2... think I might just do that soon. _________________

DON'T YOU DO THAT FLAMER!
From the screenshots, I'd say you've got the best battle engine for the OHR I've yet to see.
SG3 is coming along well too, but I can't judge its mechanics yet. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |
