have a few sculptures I wanna show off.
Gee, I'm getting a lot more art than programming done lately. Somebody ought to find me at my art class and beat me with the go-home-and-program stick ;)

Where might a I purchase said stick?

Also, pretty cool sculptures. My only complaint is that the face on the doppelganger seems to lack detail, but then again, I'm not sure how much detail you could really put into it. I suppose it all depends on what you're working with, right?

One cannot purchase the go-home-and-program stick, one must carve it!

You are absolutely correct. The faces of the Doppelganger pair are almost featureless. I might pretend that this is supposed to bee a deep statement about personal loss and the search for self-identity, but in fact it is because faces are really hard, and I usually wimp out ;)

Katt's face is my most detailed yet (Katt is my most recent piece; she still hasn't even been fired) I have been making an effort to put more detail into my three weakest areas: Hands, Feet, and Faces.

Yes, I did notice that that her face was quite nice, but I forgot to comment on it. But when I look at her, I really don't like the way she's leaning. Now I understand that it might fall if she stands up straight because the clay will be too unbalanced, but when I look at her it looks like she's going to fall anyway with her knees out so far. Any reasoning behind this, or am I just missing something?

Does it matter what one carves this go-home-and-program-stick out of?

Nice sculptures

Although, I can't really tell what the second one is supposed to be... Oookay...

contemplates carving stick out of pine, but then decides oak would stay in one piece longer. almost starts carving the stick out of oak, but then decides a nice hollow steel tube works better. starts wrapping the end in electrical tape for better grippage.

now... to find out james' scedule so i can beat him and get away with it...

I'm not 100% happy with her legs either, but happy enough :)
Her legs and tail form a sort of tripod, which is great for balance, but it makes it look kinda like she is leaning back a little. I have corrected it slightly since I took those pictures, but if I was doing it over again I would make one leg straight, and slightly back from the other, so she would look more in-the-middle-of-a-step rather than knees-bent-for-no-good-reason.

Two women back-to-back. It is a little easier to figure out when you actually see it, but it IS kina amorphous.

Thanks! Yes, I am going to be putting Doppelganger Swordmaiden up for sale in a student/teacher art show thingy next month, although I am intentionaly overpricing it, cause I am not really eager to sell :)

Thanks.

People keep making "is that a Pokemon?" comments?

A pokemon? Pokemon are too cartoony. It's far too realist to be a pokemon, I think. Though I can see why people might think that. The concept of a dragon with a leaf for a tail seems like a pokemon concept.

Yeah, but the leaf dragon looks way cooler than a pokemon ever could.

Y'know, I personally hate most sculpture (probably jealous because I'm not artistic enough to make a decent-looking stick figure, and I'm too clumsy even if I was artistic) but I'm lovin' this, James. Maybe I'll end up an art lover after all...

And now for a completely noobish question: what exactly is a doppelganger? I've heard a lot about them, and even played games with them in them, but they were roguelikes, so unless a doppelganger is an @ the same color as your @ that can confuse and deflect all missles except thrown money, I've not got a clue.

A doppelganger is someone who takes on the appearance of someone else. It has a negative connotation: usually, it's someone who tries to steal that person's identity or trick people in order to infiltrate or gather information. In Nethack, they count as humans and you shouldn't eat their corpses.

Cool sculptures. There are some cool methods you can use to make them look like old bronze and such. I learnt in a artworkshop here.
