I`ve been waiting for it for a long time. When`ll it come out?
They`ll have a lot of games to review, with this delay (which is, in part, better). Or it isn`t a delay?

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe that Rinku was the one working on Reasonably Septaweekly, and he is rarely online. I read that in a series of posts.

Rinku's scarcity is not normal for him, but from what I have heard, he is apparently sick, which is a pretty good excuse to not be online. However, I think Rinku has discontinued Septaweekly because it takes away time that he would rather spend working on Ergintandal (yay!) or Kinder der Alter (no opinion yet).

rinku has discontinued reasonably septaweekly in part because of the unusually high demands others make on how he runs it, most specifically by those demanding that their game be reviewed (preferably as the game of the issue), or those requesting to make the cover.

and also in part because i've lost the cover in three separate crahses, and have no will to remake it... one... more... time...

Actually, I heard a rumor that he planned on skipping the next issue because of the promise he made to feature the Human Day contest winner on the cover. Apparently because no game was worthy of the cover, it became grounds for the issue not to exist.

This didn't come from his mouth obviously (at least not to me), but it doesn't sound like something I'd put past him.

Oh well, take it with a grain of salt.

EDIT: I'm betting Komera's word is more legit, so it probably was just a rumor.

because there was no worthy winner, at one point the cover was going to be someone sitting at a computer and a clock on the wall behind him. the last of the three covers i tried was a tilde cover.

Or will it be resurrected at some point in the future? I'm sorry to hear Rinku is sick, too. If you talk to him, Komera, give him my best wishes! I was sick for about a month around the time of the demise of Zant, and have been lost in Zelda land (OoT & Wind Waker) ever since, so it's taken me a while to get back to the community.

BTW: Are you guys still working on that Zelda remake and Wingedmene? I asked about it on another thread, but I guess that one is dead...

Tamarind...er.. ria...:

The last time I tried replying to your post, the computer crashed, so maybe this time will be better...

Yes both games are still being worked on. As a matter of fact, Rinku is supposed to hand me the file back the next time I see him online.

Or is it the site? Half of the time when I try to get on here, it gives me some wierd overflow message, aargh! Huh? I'm not online as much as I used to be, either. Life happens. *Sigh*

I'm happy to hear you're still actively working on those games. I have to say, I await the next installment of Wingedmene with much anticip..a..tion... (say as in Rocky Horror) One of my favorite games, for sure! I was quite impressed with how well you imitated the look of Zelda as well, also one of my favorite games of all time! I hope you put in a death script before the next release, though, so it doesn't endlessly loop... Sad...

I also am playing the waiting game with DOLAD, as Rya has the file right now. He is helping me design some more tactical battles. So I'm stuck messing around with the plotscripts at the moment, waiting for the next drawing frenzy!

You never replied to my on-topic question, though. Heh. Ha ha ha!

Nice to hear from ya, though, Evil (in the nicest of ways, of course)Gryphon! Happy

Oh, you are soooo fruity! Ha ha ha!

If Rinku has plans on restarting Septa, he hasn't told me. I don't believe he'd stop having me be the cover artist, concidering how much he likes to praise my abilities, so I would have to hear about it if he had plans.

_Zelda does have a deathscript, but without anywhere to go (I've been putting in the first quest dungeons, the March '03 update in the gamelist has the first dungeon, but nothing's in it) there's really no point in actually letting the player die, is there? Ha ha ha!

Never seen Rocky Horror Picture Show... sorry.

The problem with how it is now is that when you go in to check it out, if you come across a battle and can't beat the enemy, a text box comes up which says "Not implemented yet" or something, and then the battle starts over again...and again...and again...

I had to force quit to get it to stop and that's very annoying! I was actually trying to avoid battles at the time and just look around...

Heh, and yes, I am fruity (probably more than you even know ^^), which is why I never have taken offense at your little joke. As far as missing the point sometimes, it's certainly not my I.Q. (in 5th grade, my score for reading was at a 15th-grade level, math at 10th), so I have to blame it on my blonde hair, I guess! At least that's a convenient excuse, heh. ^.~ If you were curious at all about why I chose "Tamaria", though, it's because I actually do like my real name, but nobody says it correctly. I thought this might be a closer approximation. It's "Tammera" but not said "Tam-rah". My mom thought if she put the extra 'm', people would get it, but they don't. It's said, "Tah-meh-rah". So that's the deal.

Well, it is too bad about Septa, but I guess you've got more than enough to keep you both busy right now. I like the guys on Renzokuken but they are young and inexperienced, so we can't expect anything of that caliber from them for a while...maybe the comments here on CP will help them, though. Hopefully they don't just give up. Are there any others out there doing this kind of thing?

Ah, you haven't seen Rocky Horror, so that joke was wasted on you...oh well. It's a pretty wierd show, but there are some funny parts. I never saw it in the theater where they throw stuff and whatever, but my punk husband has and he said it's a lot of fun. He's the one who introduced me to this "cult classic". I actually think the theater thing sounds pretty messy and gross, so I probably wouldn't have liked that anyway. Well, talk to ya later! Happy

Septa was the reason I thought Rinku was one of the more worthwhile members of the community. It wasn't any of his games, I just thought he was good at organizing an entertaining and informative magazine. Septa was also a good opinion forum. Even when I disagree with Rinku I still find what he says interesting. I think people will remember Septa more than they'll remember Rinku's OHR games.

I wouldn't say he's a bad designer, just that And& and H&R/Bill/West were violently non-Gilbert.

And&'s gameplay was built around doing things I don't like doing, levelling up. I like entertainment that takes me where I don't want to go, such as "Bullet in the Head" in which the heroes are put in a POW camp and forced to kill the other POWs to save their own lives. But I want to come away with something. "Bullet in the Head" helped me to strengthen my respect for human life, with And& all you have is a series of nines where there were once ones. And that would be great, but what can I do with these nines? More crap I was already doing and not liking.

I loved the premise for 48 H&R Block or whatever it's called, basically an open ended interactive story, but it had too many pointless elements. If they'd taken out the push block puzzles, the random battles, the long hallways, etc.. They could've put the time into broadening the story and adding more depth. They could've fleshed out the characters and made cutscenes rather than having someone read the ending to us out of a book. It's not that I don't like books, it's just that that's a terrible way to end another form of story telling. H&R was essentially an action adventure story, would "Commando" have been the success it was if the last half hour consisted of someone reading the ending to us out of a book while a stationary camera looks at him? Even if the reader was someone awesome like James Earl Jones, it would've ruined the way the story was being told.

Oh well, we'll see when Kinder and Ergintandal come out, since all we've seen so far are side projects of Rinku's. If he went with more original concepts, invented his own kind of video game, and then refined that into something pure with no pointless trimmings, I'd probably love his games, but until then, he's simply "The Septaweekly guy who really liked 'Atlas Shrugged'".

As far as I know... the story of H&R's 48hr game was based on a dream Harlock had.

I personally think Septa would have gone longer if Rinku hadn't had to do most of it himself (which pretty much explains why he conned me into making a Tilde review for Septa, even though that job officially went to other people).

komera is roughly right; septa is currently terminated in favor of a magazine that covers all forms of art (games, literature, film, manga, music, visual art), and aesthetics in general. what was septaweekly and ohrrpgce monthly will be archived there under the games section. this new magazine will still review ohrrpgce games, of course.

it will not, however, have the top30 list -- but if any of you wish to continue a top30 list every few months, you have my freedom to do it, and i'll even give you the last votes (what would have been the top30 list in septaweekly 3) to anyone who wants to make something like that.

the "rumor" gil mentions was actually true, although i meant it more as a joke idea. the 3rd issue cover issue is not the main or even a main reason why i stopped working on the magazine.

the main reasons were
(1) - i tried to mix ohrrpgce-focus with game aesthetics focus, and it didn't work. septaweekly was an unstable middle ground between ohrrpgce monthly and this next magazine, and it didn't last as long as either of the extremes, since all compromises are doomed to failure. this then was the 'positive incentive' to stop septa and go on.
(2) - as komera mentioned, i didn't like the idea of making a magazine for a 'community', i prefer to make it for 'game designers in general' rather than 'the ohrrpgce folk' (nothing against the ohrrpgce folk, i met most of my best friends through it). it wasn't only 'let me do the cover' and 'review my game' but also 'hurry up' and worse things. if some of you were around back when ubersteve/huckdonfonix's rpg-online was shut down, he shut it down mainly for the same reasons, he didn't like everyone telling him what to do about the site, he didn't see it as a public service, his audience did and thus demanded it work on democratic principles. this then was the 'negative incentive' to stop septa.
(3) - another positive incentive was the increase in time to work on games -- not only ergintandal and kinder der alter, but wingedmene, soul in a box, zelda;doujingeemu, phantasmo, zelda swordless hack (snes rom hack), tilde, and others.

tamarind: thanks for the wingedmene spell-check list you sent (i got half of it anyway). my email address has changed so if you sent anything to my old one, use whoisrinku@hotmail.com instead. i've fixed the spelling mistakes in that first list of yours, and if you send the second half i will fix the others.

if anyone wants to see a 'preview' of the next magazine, here:

http://heroists.cjb.net/the/games/

note that this is all tentative, none of this is final, the review certainly isn't final, there will be frames and a way to comment to each review/article eventually, etc. etc. and so on and so forth.
