|
|
I'm from another RPGMaking community, and I want to know what the best OHRRPGCE games are, because I'd like to play them. I love Indie gaming so much that nobody even understands. It and music are what I live for, and I eat up good Indie games like there's no tomorrow.
I'm making a game called Princess Alanadale using RMXP, and you can see some info for it on my site. It contains an original soundtrack, cute graphics, blah, blah blah. But that's not the point here; I just brought up my game so you guys know that I'm on the same team as you.
I think this community is fascinating -- you use NO ripped graphics! Where I come from, I can think of maybe two RPGs other than my own that use 100% original graphics done by the maker(s) of the game (and they were done by the same guy), but from the screenshots I can see I can't detect a single plagiarized graphic. That might have something to do with the maker -- I don't know.
Anyhow, I just wanted to get my hands on the best this community has to offer, and maybe chat with members of it a little bit to see what it's like.
BTW, if you're curious as to what the single best Indie game I've ever played is, just go to http://www.h3who.com and download Sunset Over Indahl. SOI is what gaming art should be. _________________ Check out my website, The World of Metropolis, for music downloads, Princess Alanadale information, and RM reviews!

You might check out the "Top 30" thread. However, you should be warned that a lot of the games listed there have community references that you probably won't get. We tend to make a lot of inside jokes. _________________ Locked

After The Apocalypse. It's just a stunning, BREATHTAKING game, detailing the actions of an entire community of people AFTER THE APOCALYPSE. It really makes you think about what you'd do after the apocalypse, and brings up lots of fascinating questions. I don't think it's on the gamelist here. Go to the main page (Www.castleparadox.com) and click on Op:OHR archive. click on the big thing in the middle, then scroll down till you see "View Gamelist." click on that, and then it should be pretty explainable. |

AIRSHIP 2600. IT IS SO AWESOME THAT NONE OF US BOTHER TO VOTE FOR IT IN THE TOP 30 THREAD BECAUSE ITS AWESOMENESS IS SO OBVIOUS.
The Top 30 thread has quite a few good runner-ups, they don't come close to Airship 2600.
Too bad it doesn't exist. _________________ im realy ded |

What is best is really a matter of opinion. But that place should give you a good idea of the best.

I'm not getting any sound in OHR games. Do you guys have any idea what the problem is? I'm running a Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX. _________________ Check out my website, The World of Metropolis, for music downloads, Princess Alanadale information, and RM reviews!

Your problem may not be internal. Get VDMS sound installed. Then right click the custom or game .exe and select "open with VDMS sound"
here's VDMS sound, my friend. -> http://www.castleparadox.com/forum/gamelist-display.php?game=137 _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

VDMS of course only works with windows NT, 2000, or XP. If you're running Millenium edition, you're probably screwed. In fact, if you're running ME then you're definately screwed, just based on the lagginess of said system. However since you mentioned you had a project with RPG Maker XP, I'll assume that's the system you have.
There's also the issue that some OHR games simply don't have music.
As for some good games, I'll copy what I posted a few weeks ago, nearly verbatum:
Crescent Dream, Ends of the Earth 2, and Genesis are some faily good RPGs to look at. I would also look at Pitch Black 2. In the coming months you could possibly look forwards to Ziggurats for Red Turtle, Sword of Jade, and TSSE.
Sheep Rancher, Walrus Chef, and Blow Up make for good puzzle games.
OHRdate is a lengthy, but well made dating Sim. Play its sequel too.
Trailblazers is one of the best frickin OHR games made to date and it's a platformer. OHRadius has the distinction of being the first 'shooter'. Smokey McGoo is a good example of a Zelda-type game.
OHRhouse, Gato Sucio, WalthrUs, Arfenhouse 3, and all of the OMGTIZROXORS games are considered the standard of OHR humor.
And you'll eventually play FFH since by this point 99% of the community has anyway. Make your own judgements on it.
Avoid Magnus, Orange Cru, the earlier Mr. Triangle games (4 and 5 are acceptible however), Patamon's Adventure, Billy the Gnome, Any of the Habla no Ingles games, and most of the games made for the Original Terrible Games Contest & v1.WTF. Also avoid Barely Legal Bitches and Hentai Quest on account of the high sexual content. |

Cool, that's really helpful. Thanks! I'm going to try about Crescent Dream right now. But, I'm curious, what is FFH?
Oh, and be sure to check out my site if you're curious as to what my game looks like. I have a couple of MIDIs up for download in the music section too, though most of the soundtrack will be mp3. Fenrir: I have ME and VDMS works... half the time. But it still works.
Ummm... Like everyone said, check the top 30. Play Wandering Hamster. It's one of the best games to inspire you to make a game. When I first joined I thought it was the best, and I still to this day, hold it in high regard. It even has all the files so you can mess with it and see what does what. And if you just want another fun game to play, try Walthros. _________________ ---------------Projects----

Yes. Wandering Hamster is good. But nothing can ever...ever....ever....beat Wathros. _________________ The Following Statement is True.

The characters in Wandering Hamster had much better personalities. I just prefer the characters in WH over Walthros. And Walthrus is only funny if you have played Walthros in the first place. _________________ ---------------Projects----

I'm just joking. I don't think Walthros is the best game. I like horror games the best. (thats why i love the halloween contests so much!) _________________ The Following Statement is True.
