Hello.
Its been years since I've even contemplated the OHRRPGCE. I was never a reg on any of the message boards, and I don't even remember what name I used on the Zenk board, but I messed around with the engine a bit. On the upside, I never posted a never-to-be finished demo and considered myself a game designer. ;p
I'm contemplating picking it up again and possibly actually doing something with it. I was wondering what games currently represent the bleeding edge of OHR authorship. Also, any info on the current state of the OHR community would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance. _________________ ------

Oh, happy day! Welcome to Cp! You're the first maturely posting member we have had join in a long long time.
I would say check out the games on the top 5 list that you will find at the bottom of the index page on this forum. Arfenhouse, however, realy doesn't represent what you probably want to do with game design.
The current state of the community is a little fragile. The host, Inferior Minion (IM) is being dog piled on by some of the Veterans here right now. There was a pretty bad newb problem recently. There was spam galore, but that is sort of calming down now...
My one piece of advice is to keep a post relevant to the topic (if you need to make a joke, make it and then come back with something useful in the same post), and "take everything with a grain of salt", or in other words, don't mind the peanut gallery if in the case one should ever be insulted.
Half the time, the person isn't serious anyway.
PS: For future reference, this is the general discussion area. It is a place where community members may discuss the OHR and ask questions about it. The announcement area is where people announce their games, welcome new members, and announce updates to their games etc.

Thank you for the warm welcome, and for the tips. I strive to embody the Tao, and if that makes me a Taoist, then I am a Taoist.
One other question... under which forum would I solicit for betatesters? I'm nowhere near that point yet, but when I am (after extensive alpha-testing on my part, and having polished the heck out of the game itself), where should I post my beta-call? _________________ ------

Yes, you're most welcome to the community (it's nice to know there are still sane people out there).
If you're looking for a more detailed/accurate list of popular games, have a look at JSH's Top 30 lists:
Recent --> http://www.cp-games.org/users/jsh/top30fall04.htm
Older --> http://www.cp-games.org/users/jsh/top30sum04.htm
You could just ask for betatesters on this forum, I believe. You could post some screenshots at the same time as a sneak peak : P If its going to be a serious preview, it might be best to put it on the announcements forum instead. The announcements forums also is generally used as a general forum because we don't have one. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

I won't release demos/previews. I have had issues in the past finishing projects I'm working on before something new and shiny comes along, so unless I'm sure it is going to be a finished project, I won't tease the game playing audience with a half-finished game. _________________ ------

I can honestly say I enjoy seeing new people who bother to speak proper English and realize when their own ideas suck without brown-nosing. Keep your self-esteem and ambition as high as rationally possible and you could become a valued member of any community. _________________

... Depends if you mean serious games, or the more ordinary sort (Which herein means funny/stupid).
Funny/Stupid, there's lots: OHR House, Put on Shoes, many others.
I hardly play serious.

Well, that'd be most of us though. If you don't personally want to do it, I can understand that, but just to let you know that the majority of games we all release are demoes that only half of them get finished.
But, at any rate, welcome to CP! I look forward to seeing some of your work. _________________

I do recall a "Coorlim" from a long, long time ago...
Anyway, Junair, you probably deserve that title, but you just kind of popped in here without making a big deal about it. _________________

Sure, but I said in a while, old chap. That sort of disqualifies you, because you started maybe 5 or 6 months ago. Am I not mistaken? _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

Welcome to CP!
I can understand not wanting to post half finnished projects. I like to think i have the biggest list out of everyone ( 9 games, and counting). If you are like me and abandon a project whenever a new idea pops into your head then do what i do, and stop thinking. it makes life so much more bearable.

Actually, I top the list of uploaded games on the gamelist... probably total titles, too. (That's really nothing to be proud of, though. ) _________________
