White Mage revives this thread. Coming soon, too: Summoner, Time Mage, and Blue Mage.
(Isn't that a fantastic background on the White Mage? I think I outdid myself this time.) _________________

The backround does looks really cool. How did you do that? _________________ The Following Statement is True.

Very good. But It looks more like the white mage is wearing a cap rather than a hood. If it's a hood, I should be able to see some of it around his head on the other side.
The black mage's collar is done well. That hat makes him look fat though. Oh well. These are chibi, right? If so, then it's ok. _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

Leroy: Maaaybe... it depends on the angle. Any graphical oddities in these portraits I usually end up not caring about because they'll wind up as 100x50 pixels in the game (1/6 of what they are now).
Tsunami: I inverted the colors on one of the default fill images that comes with my paint program then tweaked it 'till it looked good. It originally looked lavaish. _________________

Blue Mage and Time Mage. Yes, I know, the FFV Blue Mage is way better, but I couldn't get the mask right. This is the FFTA Blue Mage.
I am quickly coming to the understanding that I am really great at "filler" backgrounds. The drawings themselves are decent, but I'm not as satisfied with this bunch. The best one is still Paladin.
With eight portraits done now, that leaves three left: Ninja, Caller, and Archmage. I have a Caller drawn up, but I'm even less happy with it than I am with these, so we'll see. _________________

It might be the style, it might be the feel, but I personally would like to see more than just a fraction of their faces. The artwork is good, but you should really do a potrait that shows more of the characters. _________________

It might be the fact that these things end up at about a half inch on your screen. Anything smaller lacks all sense of detail.
For example (actual pixel size in-game):

Yes, I could add more onto them, but they're pretty tiny. (Now that you mention it, though, I do seem to show more of the character in the first set of pics than in the more recent wave.) _________________

| I am sad by how broken the lines are in the actual-sized portraits. |

Oh, they won't really be, that's the web browser's auto-size function. _________________
