Greetings, I am a "noob" OHRRPGCE game developer and have currently got two full games up for download. I would be extremely grateful if anyone could play and review the following games, "Age of Strife" and "Rook". Hell, i hate pleading, it's kinda pathetic, but not quite as pathetic as seeing 0 reviews everytime I check up on how my children (i.e.games that took bloody ages to make) are doing.

Thank you
Septimus

This is a noble plea. Don't feel weak or pathetic for it.
As long as they are completed games, your chances for getting a review will not be too much of a problem.

PS: For the future; posts about reviews are normally posted on the Review wars board. Hectic organization. :p

.....They made no sense, I don't get the story AT ALL. Get some storyline and graphic lesson, please.

For first games, I've seen better, but I've seen worse too. They are....fair...ish first games.

Don't take insult, the first game I did was much worse...

I see your point jjkaybomb, the storyline is really fragmented and isn't really solid at all. I think i should come up with a solid gripping story first rather than just diving into it, as this time the whole game was just spontaneous.
Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Wonderful response. Most people would have blown up at this point.

The games seem very spontaneous and not planned. The storylines you seemed to introduce seem interesting enough, but I think you tried to condense a 30 hour game into 30 minutes. What I'm saying is, you should start off with a nice, small story and build off of there.

But what I'm really more concerned with is your graphics. Your games remind me of a game called Shade (I wouldn't recommend playing it.) The game in its self isn't completely horrible (though the story does drone on forever.) but the graphics kill it. To begin, I would go here:

http://pixeltutorial.cjb.net/

This is a wonderful tutorial that shows a lot of the basics of pixel art for games (including how a little can make a lot.) The reason I'm worried is that, when first playing a game, or seeing the screenshot, you have to look at the game. If the game doesn't look appealing, then people pass by it. It just would be a shame if you were to get your other sections up and then bring graphics as an afterthought.

But my first game was horrible too.

But remember the most important thing of all when making a game:
Have fun!

I've seen the pixel tutorial before, looked kinda complicated, now if only I had a team of artists.....
Thanks for the feedback Calehay, did you play till the end? Did anyone play till the end????

I played Rook 'till the end. I didn't think it was THAT bad.

You are absolutly correct. Rook is slightly better than than Age Of Strife because there is a better formed story and SLIGHTLY better graphic. Possibly a later date?

I played Age of Strife to the end, but I've only started Rook.

It really does at first, but if you go step by step and read line by line (a daunting task for many people in this day and age.) everything will make sense. It won't make you a super pixel artist after one reading, but it will give you ideas to build off of.

After that, you should look at some of your favorite OHR games (City of Dreams, anyone?) Try emulating some of their tactics.

I'll finish Rook and give some comments. Would you rather I review?

I don't mind comments or a review.
I've completely redone Age of Strife, redone the graphics added a new enemy in, and actually put some storyline in!
I'll put the updated version of Age of Strife up soon, folks.
Thanks a million for your comments and support :-)

Soon? I can't wait THAT long. Crying

PS: I will hold off playing until I get the update, then.

The update is now up, it's amazing what 2 hours of changing maptiles and walkabouts can do.
Man, that pixel tutorial saved my life!
Adios

I guess you could always go back over a game and put storyline in after it's finished, but thats cheating ;-)
Anyway i always find it's hard to keep a good storyline going, what with worrying about drawing graphics balancing the game and putting the right music in,etc. Ah the life of an OHR game designer!

I like your attitude tword it all, I mean most people would be like, "OMG WHAT DU U MEEN MAH GAME IZ THA MOST CUTTING EGDE SOPA ORIGINAL GAME ON DIS OHR GAYME LIZT!"

But the others are right pleheheeez work on your graphics. It may take forever but if I just wanted a good storyline why not read a book. And the story in age of strife runs by so fast it leaves me saying,"what the junk was that about!?" Just keep working at it...
