Hey everyone,

I'm involved in a little game called Hero of Allacrost, and today we just released our first public screenshots. Have a look, and drop by our forums.

Well this IS an announcement, but the thread suggests an Art forum topic... Tough call.

I love the title screen, man. Beautiful colors.
The tiles are fairly... I like what PHC said, "bland". Its some sort of desert wasteland type place from what I can see, so this is reasonable. The walls didn't look right at first glance, but on second glance I can tell what they are. That's an awesome idea!
I love the spriting. They seem taller than what I am used to. However, they are incredibly detailed, if not just a tad bit generic looking.

Wow. This could be pretty exciting when it comes out. What system are you using. Is this a product of the OHR?

This was posted here because this is a game making forum, and we are making a game.

As far as the environments go, those shots were put together without a map editor, and with tiles that were done in two weeks by our tile artist, who was moving in the middle of that time period.

Once we have our map editor, and more time for our tiles, things will look much better.

As far as updates go, we have some of the music that will be featured in the game posted, and later on today (when I finish editing it) the prologue's story will be posted. This novel/story format is the basis for the story behind the game. Check it out, http://www.allacrost.org/

P.S. Thanks Orion Happy

Is it OHR, no. Why is it relevant? Because it's still a 2d RPG game. Things like gameplay, tiles and sprites are still similar. As is story, and that was just posted on our front page.

Also, our game is totally open source, which means that if someone here wanted to move from OHRRPGCE to raw code, they could, and they could use our project's code as a base.

And finally to Leo, the sprites are 32 pixels wide by 64 high. It gives a nicer proportion as well as more room for detail than square sprites. Also, an art thread wouldn't be entirely appropriate. While I did mention art in the first post, that's because we had posted it that day. I would like people to look at our game, for the art of course, but also for the gameplay and story.

aye, but this is an OHR game related forum and yes this should have initially been in the art thread seeing as how you were asking for comments on the art.

The characters look good, but the areas they are in doesn't look good. If this is a professional game, then don't make crap tiles. And this isn't exactly an OHR topic. Considering it's an ohr forum.

Well, I don't want to start any fights, so here is how it stands:

I thought people would be interested in the game, so I posted it here. I knew of the site because I used to work with the OHR, and because I am in the IRC channels with members of the OHR community.

As far as the project is concerned:

The code is incomplete, which is why we haven't released any yet. However, the project is very active, and is progressing well.

The novel/story is meant to run parallel to the game. You can read the story, play the game, or do both. Due to the differences in medium, they will not be entirely the same, but they obviously complement each other.

As far as it being forced, if you don't want to read it, you don't have to. However, it is available if you so choose.

Since this thread has turned into nothing but troll/flamebait, I would simply ask that it be locked at this point. I have no desire to enter a debate/flamewar/arguement what have you. Thank you for your time.

Alright, if you can read, which you should be able to.

And while this may be in the Castle Paradox category, it does not mean Castle Paradox is devoted entirely to the OHRRPGCE, hence the reason there is a seperate category entitled O.H.R.RPG.C.E., thank you, have a nice day.

Arguing over what forum a post should go in is truly moronic.

The game looks cool. I've been hurt before by games that looked cool but were never released soj2what? and I don't know what your track record is like. Nevertheless, good luck with this game and be awesome and finish what you start.

We're making sure that doesn't happen Squall. We have 5 programmers and 5 artists, as well as a composer. Then there is myself who handles some design, the site, and the writing. We're very active in discussion, and we see no problem at all seeing this project through to it's completion.

One of the ways we are doing this is through modular releases. The game will be released in "chapters." We haven't determined the interval at which these will be released yet though. Right now there is a lot of infrastructure work to be done on the engine.
