Characters, shmaracters, what kind of game are you making? A game where you choose one character and then fight an enemy version of everyone else?

Or is this a clever plot to steal graphics/character ideas?

The point stands that the only way he'll learn that it just doesn't work to mix and match is to let him go ahead and do it. Then, provided he even finishes (which is highly unlikely anyway) he'll get so totally blasted in the reviews and community feedback that he'll probably run screaming to an RPGM2k community site where his project would actually garner some respect for even having a finished product.

This has been tried so many times by newcomers to the community that it's not even funny anymore. It's not even AWFUL. The only people whove been able to make a community game (as I said earlier) either did it all by themself, or had community interaction that actually was part of the gameplay experience - such as OHRhouse.

OHRhouse succeeded where the rest failed because the game element of it was the actual voting process. JSH could have used generic NPC characters or whatever and still have gotten the same effect by getting the community involved and voting for their favorite.

Now Cabbageking, by making this game, you've essentially shot yourself in the foot about half a dozen times. If you fail to finish this game, or if you give up, your reputation is pretty much going to be dead. Your only hope to salvage your reputation is to finish this game, no matter how bad or how good it may be, and then move onto the next project. Essentially you have to prove everyone wrong about their preconceptions about you.

Good luck, you'll need it.

I could let you use some sprites of mine. Hit me up on AIM sometime and I'll send you a few walkabouts and an enemy sprite set. However what I have to offer, I don't know if you'd want. I can let you use Mr.Triangle.

i just thought it was funny you went ahead and said exactly what i was thinking but couldn't say because i'm supposed to be a kind, good natured woman. ah, sometimes i wish i was a guy, that way i could voice my true, heartfelt, sadistic opinion without automatically being labled a b****.

...actually I still wouldn't care either way, but that's just me...

Although I agree with Surlaw. If you're not being honest with yourself, then that doesn't do anyone any good - especially not yourself. Personally I'd be more comfortable with someone who said what they thought, then one who held back their punches, so to speak.

Besides, everyone here usually acts like bastards anyway, so it wouldn't be like, you know, anything new. Raspberry!

Hmm Fenrir, you seem absolutely set in your mind that a game of mixed graphics cannot be good. I have to disagree...

I'm trying to say that if the storyline is good enough then the graphics shouldn't matter...but I'm not planning much in way of story. There will be a bit of plot and a few laughs along the way, but I think I'm going to put emphasis on the battles.

You're right. I will have to finish this game else risk fading into obscurity. And this game WILL be finished, even if I have to wear my fingers to the bone and tear the very soul from my body!! Oookay...

IT CAN BE DONE!!

Re-read this and tell me if you're A) not making sense or B) planning on the game sucking.

You can either withhold your opinions and keep the respect of idiots, or speak them and keep the respect of the intelligent. I cannot fathom how you and so many others think the former is the better choice.

But more on topic, may whip up some sprites for this at some point. Might as well, I suppose.

hmm, thanks for that moogle1...

Im trying to say that graphics are not the most important part of a game. I'm hoping to make some really good battles and really good graphics, and have a storyline that makes sense but is not overly complex. And if I get housemaster in a battle, then hopefully it will just make the player smile.

I didn't think that post through. Now my main aim with this game is to prove that mixed graphics don't make for a bad game. If I'm proven wrong at the end, then at least I'll have tried my best. Don't get me wrong: I'm gonna do my utmost best to produce a great game!

anyway, back on the topic of character submittal...

You can use two of my characters, even though I havn't released anything. I have about 2 dozen but only 2 or 3 of them are worth any merit. If your interested send me a pm and I'll do up some descriptions. I'll leave the sprites to you for the sake of decent graphics.

The closest thing to this i've seen is RMZ's Battle Royal, which put the player up against others of RMZ's characters. go download it is you want to see a game of that style done reasonably well. Of course, you could do something entirly different,

Graphics actually are important. You can't just write of one aspect of game design as unimportant and expect your game to not suck. The fact is, even if your graphics aren't Great, they need to be sufficient. If the thing looks messy, it's not going to be a whole lot of fun, and guess what, a game with mixed graphics is going to look messy.

If you can outright write off any one aspect of production, then I'm scared for you. If you didn't notice, all these people telling you off are a tad more experienced than you when it comes to making games. Notta mention we haven't seen anything commendable from you yet, so you shouldn't be too surprised at our skepticism.

You still haven't convinced me. You aren't getting your mitts on my graphics any time soon.
