| Guys, could we please let him make this game, and then shoot him down afterwards? I mean, it's kind of early to be judging, let's just let him make the mistake (IF it is a mistake), and then tell him how he could fix it/improve it/do better next time? I mean, this whole "Don't even think about it!" morality is kind of stifling creativity, and if he wants to go ahead and try, I say we let him do it, and judge the results honestly. |

you guys DO realize that my sarcasm has just gone right over your heads? (or would it be in one ear and out the other?) for the brief moment that i had typed the last message, i was (apparently) under the illusion that you guys would have figured out that the previous post and the one before that doesn't match up so the second must be a joke. the bit of truth in my previous post was that i just don't want to automatically be labled a b**** just because my opinion isn't positive. it's an unfair perception that a man with negative opinions is labled a loner, but a woman with negative opinions is labled a b****.
-back on topic-
i am willing to suspend my disbelief until i see some progress on this game. i will admit that i, like many here, have a clouded view because of past failures. but as i see it, those project fail because the project becomes too big for the lone person with the file to juggle. the ideas vastly out distance the author's short term interest.
i've never approved of project that ask for volunteers, such as you are doing. so i have never volunteered for them. the one project that has me/my character in is was the only one that the author sought me out and asked me, which i liked. the former seems too much like jumping on the bandwagon, while the latter is being appreciated for your own work elsewhere.
this is probably why fenny's so much more popular than i am, he volunteers his services whenever he sees something striking either his fancy... or a raw nerve (when he has the time, of course). so you should probably worship the ground he walks upon for him even considering giving you some of his art.
as an aside, his post was the only reason i replied in the first place. normally i would have just ignored this thread, but fenny's reply was just so blasted funny.

Specplosive's "Veteran RPG" was pretty popular for a little while -- that's the only project of this kind I can remember doing well.
Those of us old enough to remember it also remember that it was created in response to Chenzi's "Newbie RPG," which was a little like TQ's noob ranch. _________________

Notta mention we haven't seen anything commendable from you yet, so you shouldn't be too surprised at our skepticism. |
OK two quick points. Minnek: I am going to be slightly selective. I'm not going to accept "MA SPRIT 4 DA HEERO OV MA GAME!!!!!1! FROM CRAZINOOB," that would not make for pleasant gaming I agree.
And Uncommon: I'm not "writing off" the graphics at all. All I said was that they are not the most important factor. I would say now though that it takes everything, graphics, music, story, scrpting, working in harmony to create a great game. I've done some of the best maptiles I've ever made so far, so I hope that when I can release some screenshots you'll see that I haven't ignored graphics.
Far from it in fact, I'd consider graphics to be my strongest aspect of the OHRRPGCE. I think most people have assumed that I'm asking for sprites because I can't make them myself...
Sorry, this has been a very long post hasn't it? I'm working hard on this when I have time, but I'm in the middle of exams right now...I'll get some screens up ASAP. [/quote] _________________ The Daleks are coming!! Woooo! |

Now if you were a furry, being called a bitch wouldn't even be an insult.
And to illustrate a point, Cabbageking, if you are in desperate need of sprites/tiles/whatever, you have my permission just this once, to rip whatever you need from any of my games EXCEPT TSSE. |

wow! thanks fenrir. Thats extremely kind of you, thankyou. I really hope I can convince you that mixed graphics don't necessarily make a bad game by the end of this! _________________ The Daleks are coming!! Woooo! |

Anyone have the link for OHR Battle handy? I think he should take a look at it, just for personal experience. I think if the game is balanced but the graphics are off, then its no reason to repremand, graphics arn't everything in a game.....even though it would be nice to not come out needing medical help for vision.
--On another note I would submit sprites, but a) I'm pretty muc an unkown lazy bum who failed to finish a game -- to this date.
b) I'm lazy and can't find the file and c) i have to go -- like now, being kicked off _________________ ...eh? |

Two words: Thanksgiving Quest.
Best OHR game ever.
Well, maybe not quite... _________________ "Everyone has 200,000 bad drawings in them, the sooner you get them out the better."

What's OHR Battle have to do with anybody? I was merely stating that I prefer TQ, and its battles are a perfectly fantastic guide. _________________ "Everyone has 200,000 bad drawings in them, the sooner you get them out the better."

| ohr battle is involved because it had members of cp fighting against each other in a tournament type deal. |

TQ was also full of OHR community members. |

Which OHR Battle are you talking about? The one that I'm thinking of is by Cardcaptor Stacy and it didn't have members fighting each other or a tournament. In fact, it wasn't even CP: It was about Zantetsuken. _________________

true, i see what your saying iblis but i guess what im thinking is that rpeanut submitted the idea of ohrbattle because of how it was setup and such.
the initial reason i asked joeman why he was talking about TQ was because all he said was it's the greatest OHR game there is ("well maybe not quite..."). which seemed kind of spontaneous to me... |
