Like someone said before, it looks like you're trying to rival James Paige and Wandering Hamster mimic something that's already been done, but still it would be interesting to see the results if the idea got off the ground.

Ok, what if we forget making a tutorial game, but instead make just a plain fun community game. One that shows that we're not just a bunch of losers who spend the majority of our waking hours yelling at each other. (I don't know if I'm kidding or not...)

It could work. There's no need to rival Wandering Hamster. Just because it's a game made on the OHR doesn't mean that every other OHR game competes with it for attention. And, it would only mimic it if we decided to make a game about a crazy hamster who decides to save the world from an evil overlord and what not. That would just be plain silly.

*shrug* It's not like it hasn't been tried before, but don't let my cynicism stop you.

Bad experiences from last time stop me from getting involved.

What was this "last time"? I searched the forums, and couldn't find anything...

Veteran RPG by Specplosive (which was probably the best one ever, but Spec did 95% of the work). Nexus by whomever. There have been various attempts throughout the years and the fact that none of them is present on CP is only a testament to their failure.

You wouldn't necessarily need to make a game about a hamster to rival James Paige's game, just a game that attempts to show the capabilities of the OHRRPGCE better than it.

I like the idea of a in-game tutorial, but as a monolithic one-game-about-every-aspect-of-game-making it would be pretty darn hard (due to The OHR's inherant work-sharing capabilities)

I think small focues tutorial games about specific subjects would be fantastic.

The best way to link to it is: http://HamsterRepublic.com/ohrrpgce/wiki.php which redirects to gilgamesh. I kinda consider gilgamesh semi-temporary as a web server. (it has limited bandwidth, and isn't as reliable as hamsterrepublic.com or motherhamster.org ... the only thing gilgamesh has going for it is a gigantor-omega-honk hard drive)

Another thing to consider... you spend all this time making a game on how to use the engine... then the engine gets updated (I think it's still getting updated Big grin). What then? Eventually it would likely update enough to make the game obsolete, making the work for naught...

Unless you worked up a way to keep it constantly updated... then you'd need to find someone willing to update the game with each update... but whatever.

However, unlike hamsterrepublic.com, gilgamesh isn't blocked on my school internet which is where I do most of my Wiki work. However, in about 2 months or so, that won't be a problem anymore... So, put off until then!

That is very unusual. I wonder how your school implements blocking? (In my opinion blocking is terrible, and the ONLY blocking that a school should ever consider implementing is not in software or firewall, it should come in the form of a technically knowledgable teacher who looks over students shoulders and pays attention to what they do)

umm... end rant.

Anyway. I will hold off on the move for your sake.

And is motherhamster.org blocked? That is actually where I was planning to move it (much better mysql support there than hamsterepublic.com has)
