Not exactly. 16x16 to 20x20 conversion is pretty hard. In the GBA port of SMB they got it wrong, so I think that's pretty good ripping.

I don't think anyone has tried ripping Mario. I'm not even aware of any NES rips.
But, yes, this will probably set a bad precedent.
