(This forum seems best for this)

I've been on a rampage through the internet lately intently looking for freeware RPG's to download. Something to draw inspiration to continue making games myself.
The reason for this is that, OHR games are awsome and all - but they just don't cover that certain something. I want to find more RPG games that are professionally done, perhaps not with an engine.

If you know of any other Freeware RPG's that we could download, please post a link here. The more RPG's and variation we have on our PC's the more different angles we find of implementing certain things into our games.

A few of my own links for certain Freeware RPG's:

The Spirit Engine - http://tse.natomic.com/
ShadowFlare - http://www.shadowflare.us/index.htm
Ahrimans Prophecy - http://www.amaranthia.com/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=8

Why not try the Ultima series. The earlier ones, numbers 1 to 8, are now freeware. There are also mmorpg's such as runescape (www.runescape.com), and flash based rpgs, such as Battleon (www.battleon.com) You could also look at sites full of old dos games, which I can't think of a specific address for right now.

www.the-underdogs.com has a buttload of games that you can download. Only problem is that the site/download time is really slow.

Also, these qualify as more of action RPG's but, www.totallyscrewed.net has some pretty fun zombie filled games; I recommend Survival Crisis Z and Blood Zero.

Crazy Cross is something to look at if you can get past the sub-par gameplay. Great music and story.

"Dragonwars" is availible for free at http://www.the-underdogs.com (mentioned above). It's a real old Bard's Tale style rpg that takes some getting into, but is one of my favorites. It's hard and non-linear, and the gameplay offers a metric assload of depth.

I've also been playing The Kingdom of Loathing a lot recently. It's a free web-based RPG that's tounge-in-cheek and really funny. The drawings are all stick figure-esque, meat is the currency, and you can play character classes such as a "Disco Bandit" (my current choice), or a "Pastamancer". Despite the silliness, the game itself is a lot fun, with plenty of puzzles, interesting items, and lots of things to do. For example, you can create your own weapons and armor by combining two existing items. And the same's true for food and even cocktails! Hell, everyone in castle paradox should start a character. We can start a clan.
