I'm working on a project. A game, in fact. This game, while not being created in the OHR, needs music. And, I need a composer type. Well, primarily a remixer, as this is a remake of an old game. But, there will be a few new songs (hopefully).

The game I'm remaking is Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and the remake is called Zelda II: Deluxe (or, Z2DX if you don't like typing). Think Metroid: Zero Mission compared to Metroid for the type of game I'm aiming to create. As such, the remixes I speak of will be upgraded songs from Zelda II.

There's more info on the Z2DX website, as well as a demo of the current engine.

Anyway, if you're interested in this, PM me or email me (my email's in my profile). To officially become part of the project, I want to hear an initial remixed song.

My prefered formats are Midi or Mod (mod prefered, but only because you can loop them in the song itself) (also, this includes the zillion mod-derivatives), but MP3 or OGG are not out of the question.

To apply, upgrade one (1) song from Zelda II. It can be any song, but the style should not change (like, don't do a 'Creepy Remix' of the overworld, that would be stupid and pointless. I'm not testing your composition abilities, I'm testing your ability to produce appropriate music). Simple enough, right? Yes.

I look forward to hearing from someone (mostly because I don't want to do the music myself, mostly because I can't do music at all)

If you do mean vgmusic as Moogle1 suggests, two things:

1. They don't have remixes of all the songs
2. I don't want to have to ask 18 or so people for permission to use them, if they existed
3. I also need original music, like one or two theme songs, and a couple boss tunes

Awesome! I look forward to this! I'm planning for this to be a very good game, and if you're half the musician they say you are... Big grin

Another place you might want to check for people is in VG Remixing sites like:

http://www.vgmix.com

http://www.ocremix.org

You may find people in their forums willing to help out. I'd chip in with stuff if I didn't already have enough projects on my plate.

Zelda II Cave Theme - Groove Remix

By: DJ Camdog (or some shit)

Yeah, I realize upon a relisten that I left out a bit of the melody, but that's easily fixed if you're interested in this. You get the idea, anyway.

People say I'm a musician? I am honoured (honored)! I will try my best to create a nice remix.

I'm not sure, but I hear that flattery is good Happy (and you were right the first time: honoured!)

"Honoured" is the British spelling. "Honored" is the American spelling.

Hmm... on third listen I realize I didn't leave out any of the melody. Oh well, I finished at like 2 am. Anyway, what do you think? Do you want to use it?

I like it, Camdog. The instrument you used for the melody is cool sounding, albeit some-what messy sounding at the same time. Have you experimented with the instruments a little? Bell has a good acoustic quality, at least for the start of the song, but the chime's a little off. I like everything else about it, though. But who wants my humble oppinion? ;P

I kinda like how the beginning sounds, but as soon as the Techno kicks in...

As it is, I don't think I could use it :/

The instrument for the melody should stay like it is in the beginning, but change when the rising action of the song starts, no?

Yes, I agree. However, Zelda music has always been more orchestral, rather than techno...

Besides, it doesn't really feel very... cavey.

No, that's not true. The beginning makes me think of an ice-type cave, and certainly it could fit, at least until the Techno kicks in.

For a regular-type cave, I'm thinking slower than the original cave/battle theme, with reverb (it's a cave, duh).

Right now, I don't know if I can add reverb at runtime with the music engine I have, but, who knows.

If there's any who may be interested in this, but who haven't heard the music, here's an NSF of Zelda II (an NSF is a rip of the music straight from the cart, and can be played back with a Winamp plugin): http://z2dx.finalfantasyq.com/zelda2.zip (Winamp plugin)
