Wow it's been a while. I remember it was about 5 or 6 years ago when I first found this wonderful site. It's amazing how much it has grown. I decided to come back here while I was writing a letter to try to get accepted to DigiPen and found that my game has become an urban legend of sorts. Happy

So I guess the big question for some of you here is "What the hell happen to Evil Dead:Timeline"?

Well it's a sad story really. After spending a long time with EDT-Take2 I decided to really push forward with Take-3. Around that time the editor was finally upgraded with plot scripting and more maps to work with. I really wanted to one-up myself by redoing most of the game graphics to bring a more artistic presence to the game. So I completely redid the main map and the swamp map by shrinking them down to one screen. Then I balanced the game out a bit to make it “slightly” easier and extended the game to include the interior of the cabin. Here you would try to fend off the deadites from entering in a minigame of sorts. There was also an attempt to include more Monkey Island-styled puzzles and interactivity into the mix. But after several grueling months of hard work I installed a flawed CD-R drive and it crashed my system. No backups, nothin. Sad... I gave up after that. I still have the hard drive sitting in my closet waiting to be resurrected someday.

Now back to the present. So from what I notice there seems to be a short supply of Evil Dead:Timeline. I’m still able to find it on some sites but they are only the Take-1 versions. I suppose I should go back and reconfigure Take-2 to work properly with the newest version of OHRrpgCE. This will take about two weeks. I probably won’t add anything new but I will balance the beginning out just a little bit to make more tolerable (I swear it was easy once you understood that you shouldn’t barge into the big battles first).

Oh and do any of the senior members out there have the original beta version (with the s@#t poor design) and the version of Take-2 with a few of the upgraded tiles for Take-3 hidden inside? It would be really cool to see those again.

Anyways, keep up the great work James and everyone else! I wish I had the time to make another game for the editor. Unfortunately most of it is focused on trying to get my foot into the game industry. So wish me luck.

Later,
SamSawyr (aka AshRaimi)

I wasn't around back then, but I'd just like to say good luck as well. It is really awesome to hear about former OHRers getting somewhere in the commercial gaming world.

Thanks guys! Razz

So I take it no one has the beta and the last release on file. Oh well. I guess they're in digital heaven now. Oookay... So far progress is going good. I have fixed alot of issues on the main map and it is somewhat easier (in a more strategic sense). Somewhere along the updates, James fixed some issues dealing with the walkabout graphics and it messed with a couple of effects of mine. Some of the cuts into the ingame cinematics were jarring and looses that magical effect. So I am going to have to redo alot of cinematics.

It's strange going back to the editor after so many years away. I spent so long attempting to make an RPG that pushed the OHRrpgCE's limits while being original enough (in presentation, not subject matter) to give it its own unique flare. I really wish I was able to give you guys a full fledged game but I guess a polished demo is just good enough.

In the next week or so I should be able to give you all an exact date on when Evil Dead:Timeline-Take2+ gets released. In the meantime here are some poor quality screenshots for the newer members of this board. Big grin

Those graphics certainly are above the OHR "Average", and if the gameplay is anything like what I've heard about this game, I'd play it for sure. Keep it up!

"I'd play it" is blasphemy. This is Evildead, the granddaddy of all OHR greats.

Edit: There is a good chance that Rinku or Jsangspar held onto their copies. I'll check to see if I still have it.

I don't know you, but welcome back anyways. Those screenshots are beautiful. I hope you put as much detail in everything else in your game too.

Good luck with this project. Happy

Let's go over this one more time. The author in question has been OHRing longer than I have.

Here is archive.org's listing for RPG Online's reviews. That site has been dead for many years. Scroll down until you see Evildead, about a page from the bottom. That's the game we're talking about.

Sadly, the individual reviews don't seem to be archived. The score, though, is available on the archive page: an impressive 97%.

"Good luck with this project" may not be the appropriate thing to say in this context.

"It is freaking crazy awesome that you are back" might be a little better I take it?

And I think I had Take 2 on my home computer, but I'm not at home and I'm pretty sure the HD wiped itself. So sorry.

Errr…wow, such high praise. I better not let this go to my head. Oookay... Oh crap, too late.

KNEEL BEFORE ME PUNY MORTALS AND DRINK FROM THE FRUITS OF MY RPG LOINS!

Ok kidding aside, I just wanted to update you guys to let you know I’m not dead (or undead for that matter).

Unfortunately this is taking a little longer than I expected. I'm right now experimenting with adding sound cues for when you pick up objects and run into enemies. After that I need to fix a lot of dialogue and possibly change some music (and a few other things Happy ).

I'm still working on applying to DigiPen. I've been trying to write a letter explaining why I would like to go to the school and it has been eating up most of my time. Plus factor in work and my current studies and you've got a time consuming soup of fun. So I decided to make the release date for TAKE-2+ on Nov.31. This should give me plenty of time to work of some stuff.

Oh by the way Moogle1, thanks for the link to RPG Online. That brought back a lot of memories. I just wish that more of the site was still active. Does anybody know what happened with Ken Soto? For awhile he was really adamant with working on a big rpg project and disappeared (I think to pursue a music career). It’s sad to see all these things disappear and never come back.

Yeah, shame about all that. Ken popped back up a long time ago, I think, but I don't really know what became of him.

Jsangspar probably has Take 2 -- he's still a big fan of the game. You should see if you can get it from him.

I actually found a copy of Evil Dead: Weird about a week ago through some heavy searching. I had completely forgotten I made this version! It was weird (no pun intended) playing my own game from an outside perspective. I released it after I made Take2 and restructured it as a mock up of your typical fangames. I just took my old beta demo, rewrote it, upped the difficulty and made fun of it. I might actually go back and rework Weird as well to make it compatible with the newer versions of OHRrpgCE.

My email address should be attached to my profile so if you want to send me the EDT:Take? please feel free too! Razz Hopefully it will include some of the graphics I made for Take 3. As for the current situation with the Take2 rerelease…well…I'll talk about that some more next week. Here are a few more pics.
