I don't really know if I should announce this before I've decided anything, but if I don't then I'll get an unfair advantage in planning time. As it is, I've only had a few hours, and I'll make sure I finish early.
It's a contest. There don't seem to be any others on at the moment. The key point is that the game must use only one map. You can fake multiple maps within that, if you wish, or creatively reuse the same spaces, or just make a short game, but there must be only one physical map (as will be obvious from the number of map lumps).
I'm thinking March 15th as the deadline. GMT - 12, so essentially March 15th and a bit, depending on where you live (a whole extra day in NZ, but it's not like you're getting this message any earlier, it's still the same amount of time from now). No particular reason for that deadline except that it's the Ides of March and it's about 5 weeks away.
I don't know f I can offer any real prizes. I expect the winner to be determined by voting, as usual. I haven't really thought it through, I just wanted to get the idea out there so you can start thinking about a game.
OHR only, and I'd kind of like you to use the Windows editor if you can (extra credit for bugs found? ).
Additional: I'm not sure this is wise, but I thought it might be nice if each participant donated a character - a complete set of walkabout and battle graphics - for the others to use if they wish, as an enemy, party member or NPC. It can be deliberately poor, if you like (Mr Stick, Mr Invisible), but the caveat is that you must use it yourself.
I don't know, is that a good idea? Too fiddly?
Anyway, say something if you're interested. And let me know what you think of the character-sharing idea. |

Sounds fun. I've already started formulating ideas. Plus, i need something to work on. Though I'm a little busy with college applications and auditions...
As for the character sharing, I'm always up to sharing stuff, it's just that I don't think that mine are going to be of the best quality.
Is FBOHR stable enough to make stuff in now? _________________ Calehay |

This contest has "Darkmoor Dungeon 2" written all over it.
I don't know if I'll be entering. You can put me down for a solid "maybe." _________________

One map, eh? Does it have to be an RPG? I mean, I've been working on... my other project... but, it's not an RPG (plus I've been doing it for about a month now)...

This is an interesting twist for a contest, and such a simple idea too. I'll see if I can think of some ideas. It's not anything Epic, so it shouldn't be a really big problem.
I like extra credit for Bug testing, as I was going to do that anyway. Also, extra credit if you provide your walkabouts with the download. :p _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

Mike takes an early lead.
Can you get the bmp file to me, Mike? My test files are fine, so I'd like to know what's different about it.
I was thinking RPGs, but I don't see why it should have to be. |

It should actually be excruciatingly easy to make a game with one map. I'd imagine that the only problem I'd have would be all the scrolling I'd have to do since that one map would have to be fscking huge. |

I think that, if you have a way you can make something without using NPCs in mind, it shouldn't matter. But that's just a guess. As long as it's one map.
Also, why is there only one frame for down and up for his walkabout? _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

because i didn't want to waste the time it would take to flip them over.
