In CPVS theres a cave scene and I was just wondering what would be a good way to have a "wooosh" sound, like something moving through the air. Can I have one thats soft (like a rock falling) can I have one loud and suprising (like a monster) could I mix the two a bit so the player is confused on where the sounds are coming from, so they dotn knwo what's what and get frantic/fearful in true suspense movie fashion?

What you're going into here is BAM manipulation. You take what you know are sounds and how they sound as BAM and using them to your SFX advantage.

For a woosh sound, I believe I made a MIDI of something like that for the Neo Krysta II soundtrack (on the gamelist). It's called "rain" er something, but I'm pretty sure it's there.

As for rocks, if you're using MIDI interfaces at all, I would recommend a tumbling on keys under the patches "Gunshot" (for a "tiffy" type sound), "Taiko drum" (if you want more of a bassy sound), or hell, do both.

Even if all you have is Notate, play around with either Gunshot or some of the later sound patches around gunshot, I'm sure you can find something abrupt and spacey.

I'm gonna try that some time. Sounds cool. I forget; does the OHR support speaker alternating? I mean when sound comes out of one speaker and then the other.

The new windows versions have volumes and alternating speakers. LeRoy could you keep me updated cuz I'm a butthead at BAM creation.

I'd like to point out that BAMs are converted back to Midi in the windows version, and thus if you have to use BAM, it's probably not a good idea.

On the other hand, I bet you could use "Seashore". I use it myself for my contest entry for sea-areas (or, I overlay it on ambient music for seashore areas)

Sea shore tends to be laggy (like the sea) the wooosh needs to be quick, like a fist into someones face.

Agh. Slow computer. *smacks his down* All better.

Anyway, the way I do it (and I'm sure a lot of people do it this way) is download a Midi composer, like Anvil Studio, and create a nice, little song in there. Then I take it to the Miditobam.exe program, which I think comes with the OHRRPGCE download. There are a few commands you need to know:
F3 : Open song list
F5 :Play/Test song as it would sound as a BAM
F2: Save the desired result (opens a blank, balck screen with nothing on it, so just start typing).

And if you don't like how the instruments turned out in BAM, you could try tweaking them back in the midi composer. Change the instruments and save it as a new file with _forbam or just _bam .midi. You know, just add _bam so you don't overwrite the previus version of the song. Continue tweaking that until you got what you are looking for.

Also the Windows versions of the OHR do support the songs you converted to Bam, but they sound different, so be aware that more tweaking may need to be done for WinOHR users.

Bottom line: Get a midi converter and use MiditoBam.exe.
