This is how I've made all of my hero battle graphics, if that will help.
First of all, think of a basic pose for your hero graphic, choose a flesh
tone, choose the 'line' tool, and make a basic skeleton. Keep in mind,
there's a curve to the spine...particularly around navel-level. Also, the
shoulders and hips are on a perpendicular angle to the spine, like this:
Next, fill out the 'skeleton' a little bit, using the 'line' tool once again. In
each step, fine tune the whole thing a little bit at a time, as you go along.
Always make sure to look at BOTH the large 'edit' graphic and the 'actual
size' one...back and forth.
Now, use the 'fill' tool to fill in the areas with solid flesh tone. If you're
Gizmog, slap on some tits and pubes, and you're done. If you're anybody
else, there are more steps to follow.
Now, divide different areas with the 'draw' tool, and then 'fill' them to
make some clothing.
You're remembering to detail all the while, right? Well now let's add some
details like hands, hair, and some shading. I very rarely use gradients of
more than 2-3 colors, so when you're making your palette, keep that in mind.
And now for some shoes, and final details. This thing could DEFINITELY
use some more detailing, but you get the idea.
Hope this helps! _________________ 'I imagine that imagination is more important than knowledge, but I don't know.'

| That series of screenshots makes a really nice tutorial! Would you mind having that on the wiki? |

Really? I would be honored! If this helps people, then that's birthday cake
to me...or maybe red velvet cake...with cream cheese frosting. Something
really good, anyway.
[EDIT] All work and no cake makes Loren a silly boy... _________________ 'I imagine that imagination is more important than knowledge, but I don't know.'

I posted it here Thanks, Gnostic!
If anybody else wants to write a tutorial with screnshots, let me know. For example, I think Gizmog's scholarly discussion of bricks in maptiles would make a good wiki article, with the addition of some screenshots. |

I agree. Giz made some really good points about doing research,
particularly. Plus, his suggestion is what originally inspired me to try
my little demonstration thing in the first place:
| Gizmog1 wrote: | | (Just a thought, but if everybody posted whatever advice they had, and maybe showed an example of their work through various stages (Possibly with permission for someone to use them and alter them to learn, but that would be optional) , or asked for help with something they were having trouble with, and we all pitched in, together we could have a pretty fullscale tutorial for anything and everything in almost no time.) |
And Giz, that was just a friendly jab at your infamous penchant for nude
sprites, not your pixelating skills. _________________ 'I imagine that imagination is more important than knowledge, but I don't know.' |

heh. I missed that line when I read through it before :)
I wonder if I should leave that in the Wiki version? Readers unfamiliar with the community probably wouldn't get it. |

I agree. It looks out of place there. HERE, however, I think it looks just
about right. God knows I'm not above the odd (very odd) nudie sprite,
in fact...if one of Giz's alter-egos trolls my journal again, I'll SEND him
some of MINE!
...Be afraid...be very afraid...ever read 'Mr. Natural' by R. Crumb?
Imagine that, but with a muuuuuch shorter beard.
LOL!!!!
Nah, I'm just kidding Giz. I think you should seriously get some screen
shots together for that maptile wiki article. I just cut & pasted all of my
maptiles from imported screens...but I'm a lazy bastard. I've only made
two sets pixel-by-pixel (the world map and the 'cave' set), but I know I
could learn a LOT from a well-written guide on making maptiles...especially
castle maptiles...and all you'd have to do is just add some screen shots to
what you've already written.
Oh, and one more thing...as long as an edit may be in the works...how about we change 'pallete' to 'palette'? Bit by the spelling demon once again. _________________ 'I imagine that imagination is more important than knowledge, but I don't know.'

LOL!!! It just might happen...but if I make it then I think 'next week' is a
bit optimistic...maybe 'next decade'...Kenneth Lay would have to be the final boss...or maybe James watt. _________________ 'I imagine that imagination is more important than knowledge, but I don't know.' |
