For a while I've been wondering a good way to have people to get an "instant library" of OHRRPGCE games to play.
The problem so far was hosting. A huge zip file of OHRRPGCE games would be completely out of scope for any OHRRPGCE user's bandwidth.
Enter Bittorrent.
What I would like to do is organize a torrent of just about every single OHRRPGCE game made to-date. Downloading the torrent would get:
a copy of GAME
/demos/ - demos of uncompleted games (will probably be the largest directory)
/complete/ - games that are complete, according to the author/game documentation
/tutorial/ - ohrrpgce tutorials
/misc/ - non-RPG game demos and tech demos
all .RPG files will be RPGFIX'd to the latest known OHR version at the time.
Now I can already hear you say, "Well, Fyre, why don't you just download every single game off of Castle Paradox/O:OHR and have at it?" Well, for one, when an author uploaded their game to CP, they didn't give permission to put it on a torrent. And two, I want to make sure I have permission from ALL authors whose games appear on this torrent. There are two ways I'm going to get that permission:
1) from authors replying to this thread okaying their game for inclusion
2) from emailing authors who do not post on CP or do not post on it anymore
So... if you want to include your game in this hopefully big torrent, please reply. If you are interested in seeding the torrent, please also reply. I will be seeding this torrent myself (6MB down / 800kb up, which i do believe is faster than CP itself). If you want to help me get permission by emailing authors, please CC your emails to mkidder@gmail.com so that I get their replies.
Thanks, and hopefully a lot of people will participate in this.
Oh.. and one last thing:
I intend to update the torrent every couple of months or so, so authors agreeing to have their game included should understand if they want their game later removed, it may take up to a few months for it to be removed. |

Sure, you can put all of my games on their... though you would probably only want to put some of them up. |

I'd be willing to seed it (as long as it doesn't get TOO huge) and sumbit a few of my games. I'll decide which ones in a little while. |

I allow inclusion of any of my games you have or can find. I will also seed the torrent whenever I have my client open (which is only occasionally). _________________

Wait, do you want links to everything? Anything I've made that I care at all about is on CP and searchable by author. _________________

This is a good idea. You have permission to put all my games on here. They're all complete. _________________ Locked

None of my games are worth putting since they are on a stop for now.
But if you want them, you have my permission. _________________ Try my OHR exporter/importer.

I give permission for my games. It might also be inspiring to some to see the progress made throughout my games from day one to the more recent times.
I'm wondering though how exactly the seeding works for Bittorrent. Once a file is done being downloaded, do you wait for the share ratio to go to 100% and choose it to be finished, and then leave it there and whenever Bittorrent and the internet is on, it seeds the file? If possible, I wouldn't mind helping to seed the file when I have the chance. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

Yeah, once you finish it 100% you become a seed and upload-only whenever you leave your bittorrent client open. However, as you download the file, you are also upload then, by giving other people peices of the file that you have. |

Anything I've released publicly is fairgame, although for the sake of good taste, I'd probably exclude Zoology No Ingles and Wager No Ingles. If I remember any others which are just a little too much joke and not enough game, I'll be sure to warn about 'em.
Seems like a pretty good idea. |

You can include Bliss. I'd like to include The Ritual as well, but not until I've gone through another bug-squashing phase, at least. I'll let you know.
Can I ask what the end goal of this is? Is it to create a single easy download so that people can see the OHR in action and perhaps become intested in it? If so, perhaps there should be some quality control. As PHC pointed out, most of the games hosted on CP aren't worth downloading. |
