I don't know if I should post on at Bugzilla, so I figured I'd do it here, since there are no worries of whether I should or not here.
Could Mike or James possibly explain why the sound effects cease to work when newly imported since the nightly after the music failing to load on map version? I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with fixing that previous problem that could have made newly added sound effects cease to work.
EDIT: I don't know about previous nightlies, but the latest, 8/18 seems to have them working again (but attacks still won't play). See Bugzilla bug 231 for more info.
Also, I noticed the 8/18 nightly gives you the option of adding sound effects to attacks. x 50 But it doesn't work, even with sound effects previously loaded that work when played on the map. Is it just sitting there and not yet functional, or is this an issue along with the sound effects failing to work? _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

I can't even import sounds. I can get as far as choosing which file to import, but it just poots in my face at any point after that.
[edit] Plus, our custom titles just got whisked away. Again. They were nice while they lasted. *sigh*. |

Twinhamster, make sure that the effects aren't on your desktop or something. The path to the sound fx should be simple, like c:\ohrrpgce\soundfx. try putting them in a folder in c:\ (ex - c:\sounds) and try it from there. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

Ah Damn
Now the sound effect is in the game (discovered this ala unlump.exe)
but custom.exe constantly persists that the game is still unlumped after several "RECOVER IT"s, resulting in 48kb files named 'recovered#.bak'.
[edit] It's probably not doing anything because working.tmp is still existing. I'll just turn off the laptop and check in the morning.
Problem resolved. Thanks OOIA. |

Regarding overall sound problems. Sound effects are a wip feature. Expect them not to work yet.
I have currently tested the "Import Sound Effects" menu in CUSTOM. That is the ONLY place you should expect sound effects to work right now.
A plotscript interface for sound effects exists, but I have not tested it. I think Mike has tested it, but I will leave it up to him to say whether or not it works satisfactorily yet.

Not yet functional. Just making room in the menu.

You do not need to use short path names. I have been doing all my WAV import testing with the folder name:
Code: | C:\Documents and Settings\James Paige\My Documents\OHR Misc\wav |

Tip: Do not heavily edit your .wav's. I had 7 recordings, and each one (about 3 seconds each) came out to 10 mb each due to a noise reduction. Totalling a 73,000kb .rpg file.
[edit] Never mind. Editing is fine. I just saved the files as minute-long recordings. |

That's strange James. Long paths like that prevent me from being able to import music and wav (but not pictures), and it seems to be a common problem for others as well. Any plausable idea why some of us can't but you can? _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

I don't know.
Are you using Windows XP or 98? (I have been testing with XP)
Give me an example of a long path that fails.
Does it fail with an error message? Does it let you try to import but fail silently? Does it not even let you browse? |

C:\Documents and settings\owner. lee\desktop
It lets me browse, but when you try to import it, it automatically goes back to the import screen but the file is not imported. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

Aha! You found a bug! It was assuming eveything after the first dot was the file extension, so instead of splitting the name up as C:\Documents and settings\owner. lee\desktop\sound.wav It was splitting it up as C:\Documents and settings\owner. lee\desktop\sound.wav
I have fixed it. |
