A while back, moogle1 posted on his game design LJ a link to the article about designing a game in 7 days. I thought it an interesting idea. I read the article, and surely enough, was inspired to make a game in 7 days. Not a short contest game. Perhaps something grander, on the level of FF1 in terms of length... maybe...

Thus far, 3 days has passed... well, 2, really, since i started at 11pm on the first day. If you wanna get technical, 13 hours and 48 minutes is the total time i've been on the OHR so far. This isn't an easy task. BUT, i was pleasantly surprised with the amount of work i got done within that time. I've so far only worked on tiles and maps so far, and i have 4 towns completed, a castle 10% done, a dungeon completed, and a whole world map with all the details. May not sound like much, but trust me, it is.

Anyways, not much of a teaser, but still, something to gaze at, perhaps?

Well, anyways, see you on the 7th day (although i highly doubt i'll get it done)

Looks very good. I wish I could do as much in as little time.

The castle wall tiles in the third screenshot and the cave wall tiles in the fourth screenshot are spectacular! :)

Wow. Looks really good, and I like this concept as well. I might try it for myself someday when I'm not overloaded with projects.

My only complaint is that your style isn't consistent enough. All of your pixel-arts involving rocks and things are excellent; however, they make your other tiles, such as the floor and water tiles, look very lacking in comparison.
And the tree leaf tiles are a little too...blocky...
I would recommend extending the leaves to cover more of the trunks, to ease the blockiness.
Otherwise, your work looks top-notch, as always. I'm really looking forward to this.

So, tis the 7th day. I couldn't finish, nor could i even get a slight demo out. I only really worked on the graphics and maps. But to me, once all that is done, everything else is just downhill (of course, if you're aiming for a simple RPG)

I'll take this as an example, however, of what is possible to accomplish in the OHR in (under) 7 days. Of those 7 days, only 22 hours were actually spent on the development of the game. If you ask me, what i have here is quite a bit despite such little time.

I could have gotten a full game out, but because i became over ambitious with the graphics and maps, it became a lot more work. I didnt have to make those fancy forest tiles, as i could've easily used the trees from the town tilesets. I didnt need to make such elaborate tiles, as my town and house tiles are simple enough. And i most definately didn't need to make so many heroes. If i took away all that time it took for me to make those uneccessary things, i could've make npcs, made some gameplay, and possibly release a full game. But, nah, i decided to make it a beautiful epic

Although this is just a graphical demo, i do have the whole game planned out. All the planning was done while i was working on another aspect of the game (in this case, map design and graphics, really). And once i get the rest of the graphics done, i could probably get the whole thing finished in a day or two. Oookay...

Anyways, take a look. I've included a journal of sorts to show what i did, when i did it, and how the process went.

To tell you the truth, I almost smell a contest (though it would practically be the same thing as the x-Hour game contest)

I think I might try it out, if I can actually make time for it.

The cave tileset was breath-taking, especially for 1 hour of work.
