For my TGC entry, Eyes, I was thinking of trying out a few new things, and one of them is an item with two purposes - you either use it to heal, or you can use it to avoid an enemy encounter. You of course, find plenty of these along your way but until you actually pick it up, when you run into an enemy (NPC), you have no choice to fight. Once you find some pills, you'd be given the option to either fight or use a pill to ward off the enemy.

I haven't thought out how it would work too much, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. As of now, the only reason you need the pills in the first place is to heal from enemy fights that you encounter prior to obtaining them. You could use it to avoid all fights, but what if it'd be better off to fight an enemy, perhaps because you'll take little damage as opposed to what the pill can heal? There will be inevitable boss fights. Should you only use the pills when you are in danger of dying, so you have plenty to fight a battle you cannot avoid?

Your thoughts now, please. Happy

If battles give you gold, experience, and/or items, this is a no-brainer.

I was actually expecting people to start pointing out when running away would be useful and stuff and why leveling up makes game balance harder and etc...

I should mention at this point I have no intention of using gold, and experience will probably be all that is received (but not in abundance). I think the incentive to run would be if you know a powerful enemy is coming after you and perhaps the nearest save point is far and you're low on life. In this case, using a pill would save you a lot of trouble.

This, too, is a no-brainer.

Not if you feel like you can take on this enemy. Perhaps what I could do is add risk and make the player gamble. Say there is a powerful enemy that will be difficult to defeat, but it has a very useful item. Should the player use the pill to bypass the enemy or fight and simply use the pill to heal in hopes of winning and getting a goodie? What I could also do is randomize what enemy NPC appears so that simply restoring and trying again and again will not suffice.

Which then, I will either die or not have enough HP for the boss based on the scenario you gave me.

Just make sure you can't run away IN battle.

I figured that would be a given.
