Well, I'm making my own "Legend of Zelda" game titled "Mark of the Triforce". I'm pretty much using RPG Maker XP for it, and I'm composing renditions of Koji Kondo's original music for it. I'll be updating this thread as new pieces are finished.
- Child of Destiny (original, though includes theme melody)
- Evil's Influence (original)
- Hero's Torn Heart (original, though includes main theme melody)
- Legend Reborn (Rendition of Main Menu screen)
- Saria's Lament (Rendition of Saria's Song)
- Warrior Spirit Within (Rendition of Dark World Theme from LttP)
- Kokiri Morning (Rendition of Kokiri Forest theme)
Now, most of these pieces end abruptly. They were intended to do so for the sake of looping (which I know Fenix will say something about when I post a demo of the game). _________________

I can't say I'm too excited for this. _________________

I'm gonna listen tonight, and give any feedback which comes to mind. Just as I always say, I don't know if feedback is what you want, so take it or leave it; either way, it's free.
[edit] Then again, who am I kidding. I rarely ever think of anything bad to say when I listen to something you composed.
[edit again] Ok, these are the unfiltered notes I wrote on impulse:
evil's influence - add "creepies" at the beginning? - what I mean by that is perhaps short and slow up-pitching strings that gradually go higher, or some effect that gives that creepy-crawly feel. It just felt appropriate for the song, I donno if it's appropriate for the scene.
hero's torn heart - very soft\slow drum somewhere?
Haha that's all I got. Good work. _________________ SACRE BLEU!

Well I'm sorry if I came off as offensive, but I mean, does a game series that has repeated the same plot line for nearly 20 years really need another fan made game?
Nevertheless the music you've made is, as always, great. The only critique I have would be the 3D echo I seem to hear, (as if listening to it in a large room) especially Saria's Lament.

Actually, you'd probably be surprised to know that it was not initially my idea. I was kind of turned off to the idea because I'm not too keen on making fangames (I think .hack//OHR was the only one I truly enjoyed doing), but when my friend James (whose idea it was to do it) told me the kind of ideas that he had in mind, but needed a story to organize them without playing too much off of one LoZ story, I decided to help him develop it. From there, I just said "screw it" and started the project.
Hopefully it'll turn out digestable. _________________

This sounds a lot more like it should be in a Zelda movie or something, ahah.. it's much more orchestral than the games, and doesn't give a video game feel. It'll be interesting to see how the ambience of the game feels with this style. I really like it.
With that said, I'm interested to hear what you have going for dungeons or overworld. The dark world theme doesn't feel very overworld like--still sounds like it's for a cutscene or something. But it's still an excellent rendition.
Next, I absolutely LOVE the chord progression you're using for Saria's theme. It makes it feel so much more emotional; very cinematic-esque. It's brilliant. My favourite of the lot (second would be Kokiri Forest).
Lastly, a lot of them end abruptly... .. I opened it up on one of my proggies, and it loops wonderfully. Excellent job. |

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that the music may once again be the best aspect of the game. I'm using tileset rips from Link to the Past, as I saw it fitting considering the 2D environment I would have to make this in.
Most of these pieces are meant for cutscenes, with the exception of Kokiri Morning, so far. Now, with the BGS (background sounds) that I will have alongside the music, that should create more of a real atmosphere than just your typical tileset RPG.
Just like Hoshima, I want this game to feel more like a SNES game that was cross-platformed to Playstation for the sake of better sound. Again, I'll post a demo when I have one.
Thanks for the feedback. _________________
