I don't know the_dude, it seemed pretty negative to me :P PHC doesn't shout or get emotional much in his reviews anymore, but can leave a terrible impression of a game nonetheless.
I wonder if there should be a link on one of the sides to the news page? Every other piece of content is linked. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

You should've made the top30 list in reverse order, with the winner found at the very bottom. It could've added more suspense. _________________ The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on.

I thought this was actually the most negative review I've written in a long time.
I completely forgot to add a link to the news page. I will fix this when I get a chance. |
none the less, there were alot more errors later on in the game that would just leave a wtf expression on your face. hopefully the polished version will be much better, my sisters spellchecking it for me and shes taking a writing major in collage so ill go threw every text box if i have to in order to fix all the errors. ill try to release the polished version sometime in october. november if i add another world. _________________

I thought the issue was pretty decent. In general, I wish there were more reviews on good games (and complete games) than on bad ones. I know that there's a lot more bad (and incomplete) games on the game list, but that doesn't mean that these should be focused on.
Game design feature articles could be something cool. I think that there are lots of great discussions on the game design discussion forum that could be used as the basis for a feature article about some aspects of game design, and it could also be cool to start a thread there with the stated intention of using quotes from it to illustrate some different opinions on the design aspect in question. Just a thought. _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

The general priority is to review the newly released games. I think we covered them all this month. Surlaw does an obligatory terrible game review on a random old game, but beyond that we don't go out of our way to review bad games.
You can submit your own articles, of course. _________________

Hmm, to tell the truth I've been kind of thinking about it. Maybe just a preview of Tales of the New World II, to begin with. I wish there were more classic style, completed RPGs to review. Reading the Top 30 has made me think about doing a review on one of those. I had very little time to spend on the OHR this past month, but I may have more time during the fall. Does one need an account at Surlaw's forums to submit something? I'm usually one of those idiots who avoids actually joining forums on the internet; I don't think I signed on to Castle Paradox until I was well on the way to a first demo of Tales I (which was over a year from beginning it, if I remember correctly). But I guess any contributors should really be making use of the Hamsterspeak forum.
Okay, I'm just rambling to myself. If I can get enough of Tales II done to warrant a preview this month, I will make one. If not, I probably won't bother with Surlaw's forums until next month (and maybe by that time I will also have a review in hand, or an idea for a game design article). _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

As far as I know, the people who go reviewed were people that asked for reviews.
My apologys about my edited comment. It was TOO late for me to be reading stuff last night _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

Come on dude, he wasn't referencing you in particular. Besides, have you looked at the game list recently? |

I missed your post, Meatballsub, but I'd like to apologize as well if you took offense to anything I posted. What I was really trying to say was that I wish there were some more positive reviews; we seem to get plenty telling us what the reviewer thinks is wrong about a game, but very few explaining what a reviewer thinks is right. Especially concerning RPGs, which are the reason I downloaded this thing in the first place.
PS: Speaking of which, I'd still very much love to see a new review of Tales of the New World I. If there is anyone who would like to do a sort of 'review exchange' for a future mag, I'd be quite interested. _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:
