Release annoucement: 'News'
Quote: | Ubersetzung! ubersetzung! Cries from the mountaintops herald the the first stable release of the OHRRPGCE in over 13 months. Descend now upon the Downloads .page as do the birds of carrion upon the freshly deadened zebra! This release celebrates new music formats, sound effects, more new scripting features than you can shake a stick at, and a feisty pirate's-chest-full of other features and bugfixes, not to mention the blessing of Fenrir-Lunaris's pixelicious Vikings of Midgard as the official sample game. For the copiously complete list of changes, read: whatsnew.txt |
There is a lot of work that needs to be done 'Improving the Wiki', so after you have downloaded ubersetzung, head over to the wiki, and update some documentation |

I certainly plan to! ... but we shall see.

Uh oh... I *definitely* remembered... but it seems to have reverted somehow, which probably means that one of my upgrade scripts is broken... Thanks for noticing. |

I may be forgetting a few details, but didn't Fenrir make it a point for newbies to rip graphics from VoM? |

I would certainly hope no one is planning on using his graphics to display all of their ohr talents. If anything, they should only rip them to kinda figure out how everything works and to visualize the style they might want to do. _________________ ---------------Projects----

The theory is, that newbie games make with VoM grapics are better than newbie games made with ripped Final Fantasy sprites, or worse, npc_tag.rpg graphics.
This will of course present a challenge to the identity of the OHR community. We have always highly valued individually drawn graphics, and I hope that does not change. Ultimately I am hoping that VoM will function more as a teaching tool and less as a pre-made sprite library, and that by examining and editing VoM sprites users can learn the tricks of the trade in the venerable art of pixelation. |

The way I see it, Vikings of Midgard is a pretty good game, so at minimum it'll act as an instant crash course of how good OHRRPGCE games can get, so even if it doesn't serve as a tutorial or graphics ripping needle bag, it'll at least make a player go, "Hm. Cool." _________________

That's exactly what I was getting at. There haven't been very many, but we have seen at least a couple in the past few years where someone uploads a game and it contains ripped graphics from other community games. I'd hate to see this happen again. _________________ ---------------Projects----

Hooray! After 555 days of development (since Tirgoviste) we've finally released! But this drawn out release doesn't seem to have a very celebratory conclusion, as 7 months ago:

Most bugfixes in the dry intermediate occurred because of boredom/guilt. I was vehemently insisting for (nearly) years that someone who knew more about it should fix sound effect bugs. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |
